Sam Heughan is finally ready to “throw my hat in the ring” for the role of James Bond. In a recent interview with The Telegraph, the Outlander star revealed that he is ready to embrace what the world has been demanding for so long.
Long before there was a call for Heughan to play the titular (and now vacant) role, he had tried out for it. In 2005, Heughan auditioned for the roles of James Bond in Casino Royale.
Of course, the role went to Daniel Craig. But with his tenure over, it is finally time for another person to step in. Outlander fans and just fans of Sam Heughan in general have been trying to will his casting into existence for some time now, and while the actor was nonchalant about it before, it seems the tide has now turned.
Sam Heughan wants to “throw my hat in the ring” to play James Bond
During the interview, Heughan stated that he would be a “brilliant Bond” and added that, “I’m good at action and I’d bring a lot of emotional intelligence.” It’s about time you recognize that, Mr. Heughan!
To be fair, for about three years now, Heughan has been tiptoeing around the idea of just giving in to the fact that he should absolutely be James Bond. Back in January 2020 we discussed in one of our articles how he told Good Morning Britain, “It’s not a no.” Then it was in March 2020, where he told Esquire about his earlier audition.
And then in July 2021, during a podcast interview with Just The Facts With Alex Zane, Heughan shared, “I think now I feel the right age for it, I feel capable enough to do it, I’d love the opportunity to throw my hat in the ring.”
More than two years later, Sam Heughan is still going strong and trying to manifest his casting as James Bond. It’s been a long time coming at this point, so if anyone in the casting department at MGM is reading this, please heed our (and his) request.
Make Sam Heughan our next James Bond; there is no one else more perfect and willing to be our next 007!
