Two weekends ago, The Marvels dropped into theaters. This is the latest movie in the hugely successful Marvel Cinematic Universe, which makes it a big deal. It’s a follow-up to 2019’s Captain Marvel, which starred Brie Larson as the titular superhero. This time, she’s joined by Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani) and Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris). You can’t save the universe alone.

While audience response to The Marvels has been pretty good, the movie has bombed financially; it hasn’t yet made back its budget and probably won’t. That’s a far cry from the heights of Avengers: Endgame, one of the most financially successful movies in history. That’s also a far cry from the first Captain Marvel movie, which made over a billion dollars at the box office. Now that her sequel is a financial dud, will Disney pack up the character and move on to something else?

We can’t know for sure, but is doesn’t sound like Larson is worried. “I think there is still so much inside of Carol,” she tole Entertainment Tonight. “I feel like getting to be on this team just cracked her open in a way that she hadn’t been and I really loved that for her.”

"I just loved her letting the shoulders drop a little bit, and not need to feel like all the responsibility was on her. So I think that there is just so much more to go. She is just a great character to continue to grow with. It’s like, as I am growing she is growing.”"

“There’s still so much inside of Carol.” “I think that there is just so much more to go.” “I am growing and she is growing.” These don’t sound like the words of someone who’s going to hang up their cape anytime soon…or whatever Captain Marvel wears. She’s not going to hang up her red, blue and gold onesie.

Larson even talked directly about plans in the works, although she couldn’t give specifics. “I don’t want Marvel to come for me, but there is something,” she said. “There is definitely something, to answer your question, that I would want to say, but I am not going to so.”

So there’s “something” more for Captain Marvel on the horizon. Another sequel, perhaps? An appearance in another Marvel movie? Anything is possible, including the cancelation of anything Marvel currently has planned. But for now, we can assume that Carol Danvers will return sooner or later.

Next. Chris Pine “pretty confident” that Dungeons & Dragons will get sequel. dark
