6) First appearance of Beast Titan/Miche Zacharius’ death

Attack on Titan has many disturbing and visceral scenes, but almost none come close to the absolute horror of Miche Zacharius’ death. Deemed to be the second-strongest soldier after Levi, Miche had the misfortune of coming across the Beast Titan early on in season 2. At a time when we still knew nothing about Titan-Shifters, the first appearance of a walking-talking ginormous ape who can speak human language was utterly spine-chilling.

We eventually learn that the real identity of the Beast Titan is Zeke Yeager, Eren’s half-brother. Zeke somehow always seemed less deranged as a human. However, between his cold, manipulative behavior and his technique of bombarding his enemies with boulder, he truly did justice to the “Beast” moniker in his Titan form. Miche, who was well-trained in tackling regular, mindless Titans, quickly gets paralyzed with fear as the Beast Titan converses with him about his ODM gear. He does manage to gather some courage to fight back, only to be ripped apart by Pure Titans on Zeke’s command. The blood-red graphic images, set against Miche’s piercing screams, haunt us to this day.

5) Erwin’s charge

The third season of Attack on Titan climaxes with the Battle of Shiganshina, which claimed many lives, perhaps none as precious as Commander Erwin Smith’s. In a scene that has since been immortalized by AoT fans, Erwin leads a suicidal charge headfirst into the Beast Titan’s bombardment, but not before delivering the speech of a lifetime. His valiant leadership shone through the anime and leaves a mark after his heroic death. His call for “Shinzou Sasageyo!” would continue to reverberate in the hearts of all Attack on Titan fans.
