4) Raid on Liberio

As Willy Tybur delivers a spirited speech to the world urging a declaration of war against Paradis, a grown-up Eren sits face-to-face with Reiner in the basement. This is the first time we’ve seen Eren since the beach scene of the season 3 finale, and he is far more quiet and aloof than we remember. Eren showing his already gashed hand brings the brewing tension to a boiling point, as it dawns on a terrified Reiner what is about to happen.

Eren transforms with the iconic roar of the Attack Titan. As he does, Mikasa and the other Scouts carry out a calculated assault. Marley and the rest of the world, for the first time ever, see what the “Devils of Paradis” are truly capable of.

Also, Eren shows significant character growth. From figuring out how the War Hammer Titan works to using Porco’s Jaw Titan to break the hardening and swallow Lara Tybur, Eren turns the table on the Marleyans. Even without Armin’s portside Colossal Titan transformation, the fear was well and truly driven into the Marleyans’ hearts.

3) Appearance of the Colossal Titan

Attack on Titan has all the vibes of a feel-good shonen anime, but only for the first few minutes. The emergence of the Colossal Titan over Wall Maria in the very first episode happens abruptly and out of the blue, taking both the viewers and the residents of Shiganshina by complete surprise. What ensues is full-blown chaos and ends in the Smiling Titan devouring the good-natured Carla Yeager as her son Eren watches.

We continue to believe that all of Eren’s actions are motivated by her death for the following seasons, until we find out at the end that it was his doing all along. However, that doesn’t take anything away from the utter shock of the moment. It establishes from the get-go that no one on Attack on Titan was safe.
