For the first time, the British costume drama The Crown is releasing its new season in two parts. The first four episodes came out on Netflix on November 16 and climaxed with the death of Diana, played by Elizabeth Debicki, in 1997. The next six episodes — the final episodes of the series — will release on December 14.
Here’s the cast list for the back half of season 6:
- Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth
- Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip
- Ed McVey as Prince William
- Luther Ford as Prince Harry
- Dominic West as Prince Charles
- Olivia Williams as Camilla
- Meg Bellamy as Kate Middleton
- Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret
- Bertie Carvel as Tony Blair
Netflix has released several images from the upcoming episodes, which will jump ahead to the mid-2000s. Check them out:
The show will presumably not reach the period of time when Prince Harry starts dating Meghan Markle, the most recent spot of royal drama. That also means it won’t end with the death of Queen Elizabeth, even though that would obviously make for an appropriate ending given that she’s been with the show the whole time. I suppose they could skip over all the Meghan Markle stuff (my guess is that they don’t want to adapt it because it’s hard to do it in a way that flatters the royal family, which has always been this show’s ethos) and just have an epilogue where the Queen passes on.
