We have exciting news about the upcoming third season of The Wheel of TimeWotSeries reports that British actor Olivia Williams, who has been crushing it in film and TV for decades, will play Morgase Trakand, the Queen of Andor and one of the most powerful characters in the series.

Technically, WotSeries only knows that Williams will be playing the role of the “Queen,” but it’s not hard to put two and two together. We haven’t yet met Queen Morgase, but we have met her daughter Elayne; she’s played by Ceara Coveney and became friends with Egwene and Nynaeve in the second season of the show. She’s training to be an Aes Sedai and proved her mettle when she healed Rand al’Thor’s wound in the season 2 finale.

In the books, Queen Morgase also has a son named Gawyn and a step-son named Galad. We haven’t met them yet either.

As for Williams, she’s an experienced actor who has impressed most recently by playing Camilla Parker Bowles in The Crown on Netflix. She’s also one of the leads in Max’s upcoming show Dune: Prophecy. I first became aware of Williams when she played hard-nosed businesswoman Adelle DeWitt on Joss Whedon’s short-lived sci-fi show Dollhouse. And she came back to play the mysterious, wheelchair-bound aristocrat Lavinia Bidlow on Joss Whedon’s short-lived fantasy show The Nevers. She was excellent in both roles, even though the series didn’t last and Joss Whedon has been excommunicated from show business.

And this isn’t the only news we have about casting for The Wheel of Time season 3…

Rebecca Root will play Lelaine Akashi in The Wheel of Time season 3

Meanwhile, British actor Rebecca Root (Boy Meets Girl, The Danish Girl) will reportedly join the cast of The Wheel of Time as Lelaine Akashi, a member of the Aes Sedai. According to WoTSeries, she is credited on her CV as “Keeper of the Chronicles, Lelaine Akashi.”

In the Aes Sedai pecking order, the Keeper of the Chronicles is second only to the Amyrlin Seat herself. On the show, the role is currently held by Leane Sharif (Jennifer Cheon Garcia). In the books, Lelaine does not become the Keeper of the Chronicles, so they may be changing things a bit for TV. Without giving anything away, things will get a little wild at the White Tower in The Wheel of Time season 3. If you’ve read The Shadow Rising you know what I’m talking about.

Unfortunately, we still don’t know when The Wheel of Time season 3 will premiere. Filming started pretty early, so we’re not ruling out a late 2024 premiere date, but 2025 is a definite possibility. In the meantime, the casting news continues to come in:

dark. Next. Shohreh Aghdashloo will reportedly play Elaida in The Wheel of Time
