The second season of HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel show House of the Dragon is on the way, and while we haven’t seen any new behind-the-scenes images since filming wrapped up, we are getting plenty of leaks. None of these are 100% confirmed, so take them with a grain of salt, but until we get a trailer or images or something else to tide us over until the premiere date, we will happily gobble them up.

Here’s another disclaimer: these leaks are all about SPOILERS. So if you don’t want to know what (might) happen in House of the Dragon season 2, best stop reading now. But if you’re interested, scroll on…

Arryk and Erryk Cargyll will fight in the second episode of House of the Dragon

The first season of House of the Dragon ended with Aemond Targaryen killing his cousin Lucerys Velaryon, greatly angering Luke’s mother Queen Rhaenyra. This will lead to an escalation in hostilities between two rival factions of the Targaryen family. Blood will spill, heads will roll, and we’re all gonna have a great time watching it.

Those of you who have read George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood know more or less what’s going to happen in season 2, but we’re still unclear on exactly when major events will happen. That said, things are firming up. The first episode of season 2 is reportedly titled “A Son for a Son.” That suggests that a particularly brutal event that I’ll call “the Blood and Cheese incident” will go down in the season premiere.

But there are lots more set pieces to come. According to Wake the Dragon, which has regularly been posting leaks on Twitter, the second episode will feature another big event: the fight between twin brothers Arryk and Erryk Cargyll.

We met the Arryk and Erryk Cargyll twins in the eighth episode of season 1, where they were played by real-life twin brothers Luke and Elliott Tittensor respectively. They’re both members of the Kingsguard, but they have difference loyalties. Arryk is loyal to King Aegon, perhaps because he doesn’t know him very well. But after King Viserys Targaryen dies, Erryk — who was a member of Aegon’s personal guard and saw what kind of depraved crap he got up to — steals Viserys’ old crown and brings it to his daughter Rhaenyra, who plans to contest her half-brother Aegon’s claim to the Iron Throne.

So when we left things in season 1, Arryk was fighting for Aegon and Erryk for Rhaenyra. Come season 2, Aegon and his councilors will hatch a plan to defeat Rhaenyra: Arryk will enter her stronghold of Dragonstone posing as his brother Erryk. He will find and assassinate Rhaenyra, bringing an end to the war.

Obviously things don’t go that smoothly. The twins come across each other, and since they’re on opposite sides of this conflict, they fight! What’s more, they both end up killing each other.

Is House of the Dragon rushing to its big twists?

There’s a lot of potential for drama here. Two twin brothers forced to fight to the death? This twist could have audiences crying around the world!

That said, I hope there’s enough time to build up to this twist. We haven’t spent much time with the Cargyll twins, so I hope we get an opportunity to learn what they mean to each other before they’re dead.

I’ll end by reiterating that this is a rumor, so we shouldn’t assume anything for sure until House of the Dragon season 2 starts airing sometime in the summer of 2024.
