UPDATE: It’s official. The House of the Dragon Twitter account has said that we’ll get our first look at season 2 tomorrow. It also dropped two new posters, one for Rhaenyra Targaryen and one for Alicent Hightower. They look ragged:
And here’s the original story:
Gather round the Painted Table, House of the Dragon fans: we have news. According to reliable sources, HBO is preparing to pull the curtain back on the second season of its Game of Thrones spinoff this weekend at CCXP Brazil, a huge pop culture convention that attracted over 280,000 people last year, according to the organizers. What better venue than this to debut the first footage from House of the Dragon season 2?
That’s what we’re hearing from a few different places, including westerosies — which says that HBO might debut a “trailer” at CCXP — and Redanian Intelligence, which says that “footage” will be shown.
There isn’t universal agreement. Wake the Dragon says there won’t be a trailer at CCXP, but we can square that with the other reports by making a distinction between “footage” and “a trailer.” Maybe there won’t be a proper trailer, but buzz is building that there will be something. And if reliable sites like Redanian Intelligence are saying as much, I’m inclined to believe it.
Rumor: First footage from House of the Dragon to drop this weekend
We know that HBO has a teaser trailer for House of the Dragon season 2 ready to go; they showed one off to members of the press a few weeks back. Perhaps this is the time they share that footage with the rest of the world?
If so, members of the House of the Dragon cast will be on hand to celebrate with fans. Ewan Mitchell (Aemond Targaryen) and Steve Toussaint (Corlys Velaryon) will both be at CCXP, which runs from November 30 through December 3, Thursday through Sunday. It could be a big weekend!
It does feel like time to start building anticipation for the second season. Season 1 ended on a thrilling note as Rhaenyra Targaryen resolved to step up her conflict with her half-brother Aegon for control of the Iron Throne, but the finale aired over a year ago now and it would behoove HBO to remind people why they’re interested in this story ahead of the season 2 premiere sometime in the summer of 2024. We’ll be on the lookout.
