Tomorrow, we will get our first look at House of the Dragon season 2. So says the official House of the Dragon Twitter account. It sounds like the rumors we heard about getting the first footage from season 2 at CCXP were accurate!
HBO has also dropped a pair of posters for the new season, and they are intense:
First up, we have Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) looking like she’s just crawled out of a tire fire, a tear rolling down her soot-covered face. When last we left her in House of the Dragon season 1, her half-brother Aemond Targaryen (Ewan Mitchell) had just murdered her son Lucerys Velaryon (Elliot Grihault), and she wanted blood. She’ll get it, for better or worse.
The other poster spotlights Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke), who also looks like she’s going through it:
Alicent’s son Aegon (Tom Glynn-Carney) currently sits the Iron Throne. Rhaenyra thinks the Iron Throne is hers by rights. At the end of season 1, Alicent was hoping to avoid an all-out war with Rhaenyra, but after Luke’s murder, that doesn’t seem possible.
I think these posters are great. There’s a grimy grandeur to them. They say, ‘This story is a tragedy and things are going to get way worse before they get better, if they ever do.’ If you’ve read George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood, you know that about sums it up.
Speaking of the book, the taglines on the posters — “Fire to Fire” and “Blood for Blood” — reference the title, which also happens to be the house words of House Targaryen: Fire and Blood. Get ready for plenty of fire and buckets of blood when House of the Dragon returns on HBO and Max in the summer of 2024.
This time tomorrow, we may well have an exact release date. In addition to whatever House of the Dragon is going to show off, cast members Ewan Mitchell and Steve Toussaint (Corlys Velaryon) will be on hand to answer fan questions. Watch this space!
