Watch the first trailer for Fallout on Amazon Prime Video

“From the studio behind The Boys and free 2-day shipping” comes Fallout, a new show based on the popular video game series from Bethesda Softworks. That first bit is a direct quote from the new trailer, which keeps the games’ tongue-in-cheek sense of humor very much intact. Watch below:

In the Fallout games, you play as denizens of underground bunkers who emerge to brave the blasted landscape above, which has been irradiated to hell and back by a brutal nuclear war hundreds of years in the past. This new post-apocalyptic world is populated by mutant bounty hunters, gangs of armor-wearing fanatics, and all manner of nasty creatures. Also everything is 1940s-themed. It’s dangerous, but quirky.

The new trailer reflects that. Our hero is Lucy (Ella Purnell), who emerges from her bunker to explore the outside world. It’s scary, but there are also plenty of jokes throughout the trailer, which is scored to an old Nat King Cole song. And is that Chris Parnell as the cyclops who spits out his coffee? Confirm in the comments.

Fallout will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on April 12. Will it follow in the footsteps of The Last of Us, a hugely successful video game adaptation from earlier this year? Or will it go the way of…well, most video game adaptations over the years? We’ll find out in 2024.
