During this past weekend at CCXP in Brazil, attendees were treated to 10 minutes of footage from Dune: Part Two. The new movie will adapt the back half of Frank Herbert’s 1965 sci-fi classic.
The footage hasn’t been released to the public yet, but Collider let us in on what they saw. The first moments of the movie involve a voiceover from newcomer Princess Irulan (Florence Pugh), the daughter of the emperor of the universe, Shaddam Corrino IV (Christopher Walken). She narrates the events of the first movie, which sounds like something she’d do; in the Dune novels, Irulan writes books. She then meets with her father.
We also see Glossu “the Beast” Rabban (Dave Bautista) being congratulated for his role in taking down House Atreides in the first movie. After that, we see Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) wake up in the desert. Paul and his mother Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson) are now living with the Fremen, the native people of Arrakis. They are set upon by some goons, but the Fremen scare them away by calling a sandworm.
The audience got glimpses of two other scenes. In one, Paul and his Fremen love interest Chani (Zendaya) talk about their lives; Paul comes from a world where water is plentiful and Chani is from Arrakis, where water is so scarce it’s treated with an almost religious reverence. Finally, they played part of an iconic scene from the novel where Paul rides a sandworm as part of his Fremen initiation. Collider’s Steven Weintraub, who was in attendance, called the footage “jaw dropping.”

Someone hit Florence Pugh with a projectile during the Dune: Part 2 panel
Before we leave, here’s a really weird anecdote: when several of the cast members (plus director Denis Villeneuve) appeared onstage on CCXP to promote Dune: Part Two, someone from the audience threw something that hit Florence Pugh in the face. The whole thing was caught on video:
This is the latest example of what is easily one of the weirdest trends of the past year: throwing crap at people while they’re onstage. Harry Styles was hit in the eye over the summer, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Singer Bebe Rexha had to get stitches after being beaned by a cellphone during a concert in New York. Strange stuff.
That weirdness aside, I’m very much looking forward to Dune: Part Two. If we could stop chucking things at the stars, or anybody, that would be great.
