From Doctor Who to The Crown to House of the Dragon, Matt Smith has a way of super-charging whatever project he’s involved with (give or take Morbius, there was no saving that one). His character on House of the Dragon, Daemon Targaryen, has become a fan favorite despite the fact that he’s a blood-thirsty, wife-murdering whoremonger who marries his own niece. Such is Smith’s charisma.
That charisma was on display this weekend at LA Comic Con, where an audience member asked Smith which Game of Thrones house he’d like to belong to if he weren’t a member of House Targaryen. Smith didn’t mince words. “I can’t possible answer that, I would never be anything but a Targaryen,” he said. “There’s only one family to be involved with.”
"Who wants to be a Stark? Targaryen, man. We’ve got dragons and blonde hair. What else are you gonna do? It’s the same with The Greens and The Blacks. No, no, no, there’s only one side to be on and it’s ours, man!"
A Stark would never smash their wife’s head with a rock before romancing their own niece at her wedding to someone else, that’s for sure. The Targaryens are sick in the brain. More, please.
Not that all Targaryens push the envelope quite like Daemon, of course. He’s extreme even for his family. We’ll see some contrast in season 2 once Lord Cregan Stark — played by Tom Taylor — comes into the picture.
The second season of House of the Dragon premieres on HBO and Max next summer. In the meantime, Smith isn’t the only cast member talking it up:
