Avatar 3 will not be titled Avatar: The Seed Bearer, producer confirms
By Daniel Roman
Work continues on James Cameron’s third Avatar film. Just last week we heard from Cameron that Avatar 3 is entering into a “very hectic two years of post production,” and is still slated for a December 2025 theatrical release. This third movie is the middle film in a projected run of five total movies that Cameron has planned for his science fiction universe.
Back in 2018, we got rumblings of some potential titles for these movies from a leak reported on BBC. Following Avatar and Avatar: The Way of Water, the third film was reportedly titled Avatar: The Seed Bearer, with films four and five titled Avatar: The Tulkun Rider and Avatar: The Search for Eywa respectively.
Cameron dismissed those titles in 2019 during an interview with Entertainment Tonight, saying “I can neither confirm nor deny — alright, here’s what I’ll tell ya: Those titles are among titles that are in consideration. And no final decisions have been made yet.”
Avatar producer confirms that third film’s leaked title is not accurate
But until we get some official new titles, the rumors persist. Or at least they will for Avatar 4 and 5. When it comes to Avatar 3, executive producer Jon Landau finally laid rumors that it will be titled The Seed Bearer to rest when ComicBook.com pointed out that the title was listed on Wikipedia during a recent interview.
“I’m qualified to tell you that that is not the title for Avatar 3,” Landau replied. “That’s what my Wikipedia page says? That is getting changed tonight!”
So it’s official: Avatar 3 will have some other name. But what will it be? Given how steadily work on the movie is progressing, I imagine we’ll find it out sometime in 2024.
