It’s official: Netflix has renewed its visceral animated series Blue Eye Samurai for season 2. Mizu’s quest for vengeance continues!

Blue Eye Samurai is set in Edo-period Japan and follows a swordmaster named Mizu (Maya Erskine) who is regarded as monstrous by those around her due to her mixed race heritage. She travels the land in disguise with an eye toward taking revenge on a man with brutal ties to her past. The series was created by Amber Noizumi and Michael Green, and features an impressive voice cast with plenty of recognizable names, including George Takei, Masi Oka, Kenneth Branaugh, Stephanie Hsu and Ming-Na Wen.

The show’s first season was bloody, compelling, and composed with a keen eye toward masterful storytelling. It’s great to see Netflix not beat around the bush when it comes to signing up for more of the series.

“When we started this project, we made a commitment to take this very personal story set in Edo-period Japan and bring it to life in the most authentic and beautiful way possible. Our animators, historians, musicians, martial artists and voice cast made this a reality beyond our expectations,” said Noizumi and Green in a statement, per Netflix. “We are thankful to our entire team and to our viewers from all over the world who have shown such passion for Mizu and her path of revenge. Mizu has a lot more blood to spill! We are deeply grateful to our incredible partners at Netflix for letting the journey continue.”

It’ll likely be a little while until we hear more details, but for now, rest easy and enjoy your holiday Blue Eye Samurai rewatch knowing it will return for season 2!
