Mahershala Ali shares update on the MCU’s Blade movie: “I’m sincerely encouraged”
By Ashley Hurst
Following the conclusion of the Infinity Saga, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is building up a new set of heroes to tackle the next multiverse threat most likely poised by King the Conqueror. There’s Anthony Mackie’s Captain America, Kate Bishop, Shang-Chi, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, Captain Marvel, Moon Knight, and more.
One hero we’ve not met yet — other than a very brief voice cameo in Eternals — is Blade (Mahershala Ali), about the vampire-hunting vampire from Marvel Comics. Back in 2019, MCU President Kevin Feige took to the stage to announce an upcoming Blade movie, set within his all-encompassing continuity. Sadly, the movie has since been riddled by delays. Originally set to premiere November 3, 2023, it was then pushed back to 2024. But production was put on pause in May as the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes got underway, and the movie now has a tentative release date of November 7, 2025.
Despite the myriad delays, star Mahershala Ali remains optimistic. “We’re working on it. That’s the best I could tell you,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “I’m really encouraged with the direction of the project. I think we’ll be back at it relatively soon.”
Ali also voiced his faith in the creative team behind the movie, which includes screenwriter Michael Green (Logan and Alien: Covenant). “I’m sincerely encouraged in terms of where things are at and who’s on board and who’s leading the way as far as the writing of the script and the directing and all that. So that’s the extent of what I can tell you.”

Speaking of Blade, during the recent Game Awards, Bethesda and Arkane Lyon unveiled our first look at their Blade video game. The announcement came out of nowhere. I, for one, had no idea that a Blade game was in the works. And it looks pretty good:
The Blade video game does not have a release date yet. Watch this space.
