Since Prime Video’s animated superhero series Invincible premiered in 2021, audiences have been graced with many brutal, Mortal Kombat-reminiscent onscreen character deaths, beginning with the unforgettable ending of the series premiere. Here are the most brutal on the series so far:

Thula

During the season 2 mid-season finale of Invincible, “It’s Been a While,” the superhero Omni-Man and his son Mark Grayson face off against three Viltrumites, members of the super-powerful, fascistic alien race. Their names are Thula, Lucan and Vidor, and they put up an unforgettable fight.

Mark and Thula exchange blows for a while, and it’s clear that Mark is outmatched. Although he holds his own for a time, Thula fatally stabs him in the gut and attempts to slit his throat before Mark’s dad steps in and saves him. Omni-Man punches Thula and then whips her back around with her own hair braid before elbowing her jaw right off her face.

It’s unclear if Thula survived this gruesome attack, because even though she collapses on the ground, we’ve seen Viltrumites survive equally fatal injuries. But we’re still counting it.

Red Rush

The moment that set the tone for the rest of the series is the death of Red Rush, a Flash-like superhero and a member of the Guardians of the Globe, Earth’s mightiest defenders. Up until the final moments of Episode 1, Invincible seems like a run-of-the-mill superhero story. That is until Omni-Man shows up an murders this world’s equivalent of the Justice League starting with Red Rush.

After Red Rush saves The Immortal from Omni-Man’s initial attack, Omni-Man grabs him and begins squeezing the speedster’s head while he helplessly bashes Omni-Man’s chest. Within seconds, Omni-Man’s far superior strength pops Red Rush’s head like a grape, giving me severe Oberyn Martell flashbacks in the process.
