For the past two weeks, actor Jonathan Majors has been attending his trial in the Manhattan criminal courts, where he was charged with four charges of assault, aggravated harassment and harassment stemming from an incident between him and his ex-partner Grace Jabbari that occurred on March 25 of this year. The six-person jury deliberated for over four hours, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Today, they announced their verdict, finding Majors guilty of reckless assault in the third degree and guilty of harassment. He was found not guilty of intentional assault in the third degree and aggravated harassment in the second degree.

These charges carry a sentence of up to one year in prison. Sentencing is set for February 6. We won’t know exactly what Majors’ punishment will be until then.

“We are gratified to see justice served by today’s guilty verdict,” reads a statement released by Jabbari’s attorney Ross Kramer. “Ms. Jabbari testified publicly and truthfully, even though reliving these traumatic events on the witness stand was obviously painful. We are grateful to the jurors and the Judge for their attention and patience, and to the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office for their hard work and support.”

"Ms. Jabbari’s resolve to see this case through to the end demonstrates her tremendous strength and resilience. Unfortunately, for every survivor like Ms. Jabbari who comes forward to hold their abuser accountable, there are many others who believe that they cannot. We hope that her actions will inspire other survivors to speak their truth and seek justice."

Majors’ trial has attracted a lot of attention in large part because he plays a major part in the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Kang the Conqueror, who at one point was supposed to replace Thanos as the franchise’s major baddie. According to reports, Disney was already considering pivoting away from storylines revolving around Kang after the box office disappointment of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, where Kang was a principle player. It’s likely this guilty verdict will only accelerate their plans.

UPDATEPredictably, Marvel has cut ties with Majors following this guilty verdict, according to Variety. This news comes after Majors was dropped by his talent manager Entertainment 360 and his publicity firm the Lede Company. Additionally, Disney removed Majors’ film Magazine Dreams from its release schedule and while the U.S. Army and the Texas Rangers baseball team pulled major ad campaigns featuring him. Other projects involving Majors, including  Spike Lee’s Da Understudy, remain in limbo.

At the beginning of this year, Majors was one of the most sought-after actors in Hollywood. Now it’s hard to see him ever recovering.
