Rebecca Yarros embarked on a mini book tour of sorts to promote her new Empyrean novella, Threshing Day, which was released on Sept. 29, 2026. During that tour, Yarros participated in a few Q&As about Threshing Day, but of course, with Book 4 of The Empyrean series fully in the works, Yarros also took some questions about the upcoming book.
While we didn't get a release date or anything crazy like that (and we were not expecting to!), Yarros did share some really important reveals about Book 4 and where the story is going from here! And don't worry; there are no major spoilers or anything that's going to ruin the book or any plot points. It's all fun hints and clues.
Speaking of hints and clues, Yarros had a big reveal about Threshing Day and why fans will enjoy reading it.

There are Book 4 clues and hints in Threshing Day
At the Denver stop on the tour, which we saw on Instagram thanks to @well.read.with.meghan, Yarros was asked which chapters in Threshing Day have clues for Book 4. Yarros had a great answer!
"There's something in every single one of them that's going to clue you in to things about Book 4," Yarros told the crowd. "And, look, Threshing is written so that if you don't want to read it, you don't have to. Like, the reveals that are in Threshing will come in Book 4."
This is obviously huge news without giving much away. Readers will have to do their own due diligence to dive in, read, and dissect all the little bits of information that Yarros sprinkled throughout the stories. That's the fun part of these big, interconnected fantasy worlds when they expand. If an author is doing their job well, there are going to be Easter eggs, of course, but there are also going to be clues and hints throughout because these characters, again, if written well, are the story.
Their choices and actions should make sense because of their history and what makes them tick. Those revelations about what makes them who they are should hold all the answers about what's to come in final two books of The Empyrean series.
Rebecca Yarros already knows the Book 4 title
Look, I love writing "Book 4" over and over again as much as the next fan, but wouldn't it be nice if we knew what the fourth book in The Empyrean series is actually going to be called? I think so.
Well, there's one person who knows what the book will be called, and that's Yarros. She revealed to the crowd in Denver that she knows what the title is, and she was trying her best not to accidentally slip up and reveal it to the crowd.
"The hard part is I know the title, I know, I know, so I keep sitting here, and I'm like 'Book 4, Book 4, Book 4, Book 4, Book 4, Book 4, Book 4, Book 4, Book 4, Book 4,'" Yarros said.
Obviously, it's not a surprise necessarily that Yarros knows what the book will be called, but she's still very much in the writing process, although the book is already plotted. Still, I would imagine that there's a world where an author might not know a sequel title this early in the process.
The title and cover reveal is going to be a major deal. It's probably going to happen on a live TV show like it did for Onyx Storm back in 2024. Of course, Yarros couldn't ruin all the fun by announcing it at a little celebration for Threshing Day.
We'll share more news about the Book 4 title when we find out!

We might not have met all the important characters yet
Yarros has been quite outspoken about knowing how this series ends. With that, fans were curious if that means that we've already met all the major players in the series or if there are some important characters we have yet to meet.
"Honestly, I know how the series ends," Yarros said. "I had to know it ended when I wrote Fourth Wing, but how we get there changes, depending on my mood that day, depending on what plot I'm taking to make sure it's not too similar to the other books, so I can't say for sure if we have."
Unfortunately, Yarros didn't share too much information, but that answer shows me just how malleable this story is. Yes, Yarros knows the end of the road, but it's not set in stone how we're going to get there. That should be reassuring for fans of the series in my opinion.
Now, I don't know how I'd feel if she was like keeping one epic character for the final two books, but I'm absolutely positive that we're going to see more of certain characters and dragons and less of others. That's just naturally how this story is going to go. Violet and Xaden will be at the forefront of the story, but there will be surprises about how the other characters fit in around them and opposite them. Things are just getting good.
Yarros seems to have plans for more stories set within this world after Book 4 and Book 5
This isn't an exclusive Book 4 update, but it is important to consider with Book 4 on the horizon. Yarros revealed during her New York City event that she does have plans to tell more stories set in this world.
We already know that The Empyrean series is going to be five books. Yarros has been clear she's not going to commit to the five-book series and then keep it running forever. It's well known that she's already been plotting Book 5 as she wrote Book 4 to make sure all of the setups are paid off. Fans, though, have been sharing theories about where Yarros will take this story once Violet and Xaden's story comes to an end.
Here's what she said during the event about what's next and if she's staying in this world:
"Yes, I think the answer is yes," Yarros shared. "Like, I know where I want to go after this. I know where I want to go within the world. I know where I want to go out of the world after this. It really just comes down to my time because I got a kid graduating high school this year. And then once he's gone, my daughter will still be at home, but it's less."
So, that's the good news! When The Empyrean series ends, we'll probably see Yarros explore parts of this world further. What that means right now, we don't know, but it should get fans excited to learn more and share more theories about what they want to see from Yarros in the future.
That's all for now! We'll share more updates about Book 4 as we get closer to its release, which will hopefully be sometime next year.
