Jason Momoa has taken on some excellent roles since leaving Game of Thrones.

When you think of Jason Momoa, his role as Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones certainly stands out. He has played many more since then, proving his acting skills.

Momoa acted before Game of Thrones, but mostly in smaller parts. Still, we can’t overlook his role as Jason Ioane, the new lifeguard from Texas in Baywatch when he was just 19 years old. The big roles came after his time as Khal Drogo, though. Here are his top five:

Duncan Idaho in Dune

There are some great actors in the Dune movies, and Jason Momoa fits right in there with them. He takes on the role of Duncan Idaho, the House Atreides sword-master and one of the most feared warriors throughout the entire universe. The movies had to get this role right, especially since Duncan Idaho may have a bigger role in the series going forward. The casting department did a perfect job by bringing in Momoa.

Duncan is a sort of father figure to young Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet), giving him advice that will guide him throughout both movies. Momoa brings the warrior look necessary for this character, as well as the heart of gold.

Aquaman in Aquaman

When many people first think of Aquaman, they think of the original DC comic creation. Nobody expected Jason Momoa to ever take on this role, but that’s what we got in the standalone movies and the DC team-up film Justice League, where Momoa played the king of the seven seas.

Momoa made Aquaman a superhero to root for. No one would think of this Aquaman as the weakest of his superhero breathren, his only power being to talk to fish. He brings a darkness to the role that's rooted in the character's backstory.

He brings heat, compassion, and tenderness to the role of Arthur Curry. And sure, the scripts weren’t the best, but Momoa delivers every line with passion.

Wolf in Road to Paloma

In 2014, Jason Momoa showed off his directing and writing skills with Road to Paloma. He also starred as Wolf, a somber character on the run from the law. Wolf keeps himself closed off, which means Momoa gets to do the kind of subtle facial acting he isn't often asked to do.

If you haven’t seen Road to Paloma, you need to. It shows off a more personal side of Momoa, and worth watching if you're a fan.

FAST X

Dante Reyes in Fast X

Sometimes, we want our favorite actors to take on villainous roles, and that’s exactly what we get in Fast X. Momoa is Dante Reyes, a character who constantly goes up against the core group of Fast and Furious players. He’s the one we’re not supposed to root for, but it’s hard not to do that when we love the actor so much! It doesn’t help that Dante is looking to avenge his father, who died because of Dominic and his group. Can you blame the guy?

Momoa wasn’t too happy about Fast X itself, but nothing takes away from his performance. Although Dante is the villain, the movie gives Momoa a chance to show off his comedic timing. He complements Vin Diesel well throughout the tenth installment in the franchise.

Episode 8. Jason Momoa in “See” season 2, premiering August 27, 2021 on Apple TV+.

Baba Voss in See

Apple TV+ hit the ground running hard with See. Jason Momoa starrs in the lead role of Baba Voss, a clan chieftain in a post-apocalyptic world where everyone is blind, including Baba. In this world, a pandemic has destroyed humanity, killing the majority of people and leaving others without the ability to see. However, there are a small few who can see, including a set of twins whom Baba must protect from those who view sighted people as a sign of all that was wrong with the world before.

One of the great things about the role is that it's Momoa in the lead of a series. He's very consistent across all three seasons, and there is no doubt that his scenes opposite Dave Bautista will stand out as some of his best small screen moments.
