With the year winding down and only a short stretch left before we turn the page to 2026, I found myself looking back at the fantasy shows that truly defined 2025 for me. This year’s fantasy TV felt broader and more creative than expected, spanning everything from animated worlds filled with magic and myth to darker supernatural cities and epic adventures.
If you’re looking to squeeze in a few final fantasy watches before the year ends, it’s worth noting that this list intentionally leaves out the longer multi-season commitments and major franchise returns like The Witcher season 4 and The Wheel of Time season 3. Instead, these are the 2025 fantasy series I genuinely loved and would happily recommend if you’re short on time but still want something memorable.
The Sisters Grimm (Apple TV+)
Premiering in October 2025, The Sisters Grimm quickly became one of my favorite late-year fantasy discoveries. The series is set in Ferryport Landing, a quiet modern town that secretly houses fairytale characters living among humans.
The story follows sisters Sabrina and Daphne Grimm who learn they are descendants of the Brothers Grimm and become responsible for keeping order between humans and the Everafters.
What makes this show work so well is how grounded the setting feels. One moment you’re watching a normal small-town mystery and the next you’re dealing with enchanted curses and ancient rivalries. It’s warm, funny and surprisingly thoughtful and feels comforting without ever being boring.
Bon Appétit, Your Majesty (Netflix & tvN)
One of the most talked-about 2025 releases was the historical fantasy romance Bon Appétit, Your Majesty, which premiered on August 23, 2025. This South Korean series blends time travel with palace intrigue and romance centered on Yeon Ji-yeong, a top French-trained chef who suddenly finds herself transported back to the Joseon dynasty.
There, she must cook for the famously fearsome King Yi Heon, a ruler as demanding with his palate as he is conflicted in his heart or face dire consequences. It’s a unique mix of delicious worldbuilding, political tension and oh so heartfelt character growth and it quickly became one of the most-watched Korean dramas of the year topping local ratings and earning global attention on Netflix.
The Librarians: The Next Chapter (TNT)
Another great addition to the 2025 fantasy roster was The Librarians: The Next Chapter which premiered on May 25, 2025. Serving as a direct spin-off from the beloved Librarian films and original TV series, this new chapter follows a fresh team picking up where ancient protectors of magic and myth left off.
It follows Vikram Chamberlain, a time-traveling Librarian from 1847 who becomes trapped in the present when he returns to his ancient castle in Belgrade now a public museum. In the process of rediscovering his old home, he inadvertently unleashes powerful magic across Europe, forcing supernatural artifacts and mystical forces to run wild.
To fix the chaos he has caused and restore balance, Vikram is paired with a new, eclectic team including a brilliant scientist, a conspiracy-hungry historian and a skilled Guardian, and together they set off on fantastical adventures to recover lost artifacts and contain the unleashed sorcery before it wreaks further havoc.
It’s the kind of adventure that feels both familiar and new, striking the perfect balance between treasure-hunting excitement and character-driven storytelling.
Winx Club: The Magic Is Back
Released in fall 2025, Winx Club: The Magic Is Back feels like a full return to fantasy joy of the original animated series. The story once again takes place across the magical dimension of Magix with Alfea College serving as the heart of the series. Bloom and her friends once again navigate fairy training and new threats that span enchanted realms and shadowy worlds.
The setting is as vibrant as the original and immersive with floating schools, portals between dimensions, and it leans fully into the escapism fantasy fans love. Watching this felt like stepping into a brighter more hopeful world which honestly would make it a perfect watch during the final stretch of the year.
Wolf King (Netflix)
Wolf King debuted its first season in March 2025 and followed up with more episodes later in the year, making it one of 2025’s more substantial fantasy releases.
Set in a brutal medieval-inspired world ruled by ancient bloodlines and fear, the series follows Drew Ferran, a young man who discovers he is the last heir to a fallen werewolf kingdom. The setting and visuals are quite stimulating, with stone fortresses and dangerous wilderness, and of course fairly good chemistry between the characters.
What kept me hooked was how the show uses its world to explore identity and survival. It's the kind of fantasy that feels heavy in a good way.
Devil May Cry (Netflix)
Arriving in April 2025, Devil May Cry brought fast stylish urban fantasy into the year’s lineup.
The series is set in a modern city where demonic forces spill into the human world through hidden portals and underground networks. Following demon hunter Dante, the show jumps between neon-lit streets and hellish dimensions full of chaos and fire.
I loved how the setting makes the supernatural feel like it’s always lurking just beneath everyday life. It’s pretty action-heavy, but the worldbuilding gives it enough depth to make the fantasy stick.
Iyanu (Cartoon Network / HBO Max)
Premiering in April 2025, Iyanu stood out immediately for its setting alone. The series takes place in a richly imagined world inspired by Yoruba mythology filled with ancient ruins and sacred cities.
Iyanu, a teenage girl raised in isolation, begins to awaken powers believed to have vanished generations ago, and things keep unravelling after that. The setting feels deeply rooted in history and culture and the magic is tied directly to concepts of ancestry and responsibility. The show successfully uses its world to say something meaningful which made it one of the most memorable fantasy watches of the year for me.
2025 has been a rather rewarding year for fantasy TV with new premieres and continuation of super hit franchises. Some are comforting, some are dark some are visually stunning and others are emotionally rich but all of them build worlds worth exploring. These were some of the shows I genuinely enjoyed watching this year and if you’re trying to squeeze in one last fantasy binge before 2025 ends, these are the ones you should go for.
