The immortal warriors are returning to the big screen, and the Highlander reboot is shaping up to be one of the most exciting fantasy revivals in years. The remake has been in the works for a while now, with changes in writers, production companies, and stars along the way. But it’s finally moving forward with a powerhouse cast, and John Wick filmmaker Chad Stahelski is at the helm.
Coming from Amazon MGM Studios, Stahelski is set to direct the Highlander remake from a script written by Michael Finch (John Wick: Chapter 4, Predators). In addition, Scott Stuber, Nick Nesbitt, Neal H. Moritz, Stahelski’s company 87Eleven Entertainment, Josh Davis, and Louise Rosner are signed on as producers.
The cameras will reportedly start rolling at the end of September, and the movie will release in theaters. However, a theatrical release date has not been set yet.
The original 1986 action fantasy classic starred Christopher Lambert as Connor MacLeod, a 16th-century Scottish warrior who finds out he’s immortal. He can’t die unless his head is cut off. Immortals fight each other across centuries, and only one can survive to claim the ultimate prize. Connor faces a deadly enemy called the Kurgan, and with the help of his mentor Ramirez, he battles through time until the final showdown in modern-day New York. Sean Connery took on the role of Ramirez, while Clancy Brown played the Kurgan.
In this new Amazon MGM remake, there are a bunch of well-known actors taking over these iconic roles. Below, we shared the full list of actors confirmed so far, along with the characters they’ll be bringing to life in this highly anticipated reboot.
Highlander reboot cast

Henry Cavill joined the Highlander cast in October 2023. He stars in the leading role as Connor MacLeod. Some people might remember Cavill from his turn as Superman in the DC films, or as Geralt of Rivia in Netflix’s The Witcher. Now, he’s trading capes and monster hunts for swords and immortals in this epic fantasy reboot.

Academy Award-winning actor Russell Crowe was added to the cast in June 2025. He portrays the role of Ramirez, the wise and experienced immortal who mentors Connor. Crowe is best known for his roles in Gladiator, A Beautiful Mind and Les Misérables. Some of his most recent roles were in the movies The Pope's Exorcist, The Exorcism and Kraven the Hunter.

Dave Bautista is one of the latest cast additions. He takes on the role of the Kurgan, the brutal and ruthless immortal who serves as Connor's main enemy. You might recognize Bautista from his time as Drax the Destroyer in the Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers films, as well as his roles in Blade Runner 2049 and the Dune movies. He most recently starred in the action fantasy film In the Lost Lands.
Also in the Highlander cast are Karen Gillan (The Life of Chuck, Guardians of the Galaxy movies) and Marisa Abela (Industry, Back to Black). Gillan portrays Heather, Connor's mortal wife, while Abela takes on a leading role whose details are still being kept under wraps.
This is all that's been revealed about the Highlander reboot so far. As new information is announced, we'll come back and share everything we learned. But for now, you must stay tuned to Winter is Coming!
