Last month, Amazon dropped eight episodes of The Bondsman on Prime Video. The show starred Kevin Bacon as Hub Halloran, a bounty hunter who dies and goes to hell. After that, he's given a second chance at life, provided he works for the devil chasing down demons who have escaped from hell and returning them to the underworld. He's also got to navigate a bunch of family drama. The show also starred Beth Grant, Jennifer Nettles, Damon Herriman, Maxwell Jenkins, and Jolene Purdy.

The show got decent reviews, but it must have not been enough for Amazon, because The Bondsman has been cancelled, according to The A.V. Club.

Amazon canceled the show in the dead of night this past Friday, which is what studios do whenever they want to get rid of a series without drawing too much attention. Goodbye, Hub Halloran. We barely knew ye.

Will Amazon cancel The Wheel of Time as well?

We here at WiC are big fans of another Prime Video show: The Wheel of Time, based on Robert Jordan's massive series of fantasy novels. The third season wrapped up the same month that The Bondsman came out, but we haven't heard whether Amazon and Sony — the show is a co-production between the two studios — will renew it.

The cancellation of The Bondsman shows that Amazon is willing to bring down the axe, and I'll take the fact that it hasn't weighed in on The Wheel of Time as a good sign. The third season of the fantasy epic got glowing reviews and amassed a passionate group of fans who are mounting a campaign to make sure the show continues. Hopefully, all of that is enough to make sure The Wheel of Time doesn't go the way of The Bondsman. Both shows are now streaming on Prime Video.
