Filming on the third season of HBO's Game of Thrones prequel show House of the Dragon has been up and running for a minute, and we're still getting new information on cast members, both newbies joining the production and old favorites spending time together away from the set.

First let's meet the newcomers. TV Line reports that a trio of new actors is joining the cast:

  • English actor Barry Sloane (RevengeSIX) will play Ser Adrian Redfort, a member of Rhaenyra Targaryen's Queensguard.
  • Welsh actor Tom Cullen (KnightfallDownton Abbey) is Ser Luthor Largent, a commander of the City Watch of King's Landing.
  • English actor Joplin Sibtain (Brasso from Star Wars: Andor) will play Ser "Bold" Jon Roxton, a knight fighting for Queen Rhaenyra's rival King Aegon II Targaryen.

Beware SPOILERS for House of the Dragon season 3 below!

Based on these new castings, we can kinda-sorta predict how the third season of House of the Dragon will go about adapting George R.R. Martin's book Fire & Blood. Ser Adrian Redfort and Ser Luthor Largent both come into play around the time that Rhaenyra takes over King's Landing, which we expect to happen fairly early in season 3. Meanwhile, Bold Jon Roxton is involved with a campaign in the Reach, where he'll interact with characters like Ormund Hightower and Daeron Targaryen, the youngest, as-yet-unseen son of Alicent Hightower and the late King Viserys Targaryen.

Bold Jon Roxton also has a Valyrian steel sword called Orphan-Maker. Showrunner Ryan Condal has already mentioned that a few new Valyrian steel swords will show up in this season. With this news, we can pretty much definitively say that Orphan-Maker will be one of them.

In lighter news, House of the Dragon star Gayle Rankin (Alys Rivers) posted a picture on her Instagram of herself, Olivia Cooke (Alicent Hightower) and Phia Saban (Helaena Targaryen) all enjoying a drink between shooting:

As members of the Targaryen royal family, obviously Alicent and Helaena will be back. Alys Rivers was a new character introduced in season 2, a mysterious witch woman who lives in the crumbling castle of Harrenhal. Without spoiling too much, she has a role yet to play in the book, so we're not surprised to see her back.

The third season of House of the Dragon will air on HBO and Max sometime in 2026.
