We've been waiting for a long time for Avatar: Fire and Ash to be available to stream on Disney+. Now, the wait is almost over!
Avatar: Fire and Ash is confirmed to be released on Disney+ on Wednesday, June 24. Disney announced the streaming release date news ahead of its Upfronts presentation on Tuesday, May 12, according to Variety.
Avatar: Fire and Ash, the third movie of James Cameron's Avatar franchise, following Avatar and Avatar: The Way of the Water, premiered in theaters on Dec. 19. After grossing more than $1 billion in the box office, Fire and Ash was released on SVOD platforms at the end of March. The physical media release (4K, Blu-ray, etc.) is happening one week from publishing on May 19. Then, fans will have to wait another month before the film's release on Disney+.
Fire and Ash has an incredible cast, including Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, and Kate Winslet. The story picks up after the tragic events of The Way of the Water and a new tribe emerges as a threat.
Fire and Ash is the lowest-rated movie of the series so far from a critical perspective, according to Rotten Tomatoes, but it's also the highest-rated of the three movies by fans, with a 90% popcornmeter score.
There's no doubt this is going to be the movie to watch on Disney+ when it arrives next month.
We have a long wait until Avatar 4 and 5 are released in theaters
We usually don't seen seven-month gaps between theatrical and streaming releases for a lot fo movies these days, but it won't feel that long compared to how long we have to wait for the next of the Avatar movies.
Following Fire and Ash, there are two more Avatar movies planned in Cameron's franchise, bringing the total to five movies. Unfortunately, Avatar 4 isn't scheduled for release in theaters until Dec. 21, 2029, which feels like forever away. Then, we'll have another two-year gap until Avatar 5 premieres in theaters on Dec. 19, 2031.
It's possible that we could see some movement on those theatrical release dates, too. It's so far in the future, and we all know how the release calendar works as delays happen, more movies are added to the slate, and just the unpredictable nature of filmmaking.
Needless to say, I'm sure that the wait will be worth it! Avatar fans had to wait 13 years between the first and second movies, and the quality has only increased.
Stay tuned for more news about Avatar: Fire and Ash!
