In terms of global box office performance, James Cameron's Avatar movies are two of the most popular films ever made. Avatar (2009) is the highest-grossing movie ever, while its sequel Avatar: The Way of Water (2022) comes in at third place. Next up in the franchise is Fire and Ash, which arrives in theaters later this year.

Fire and Ash is the third movie in the Avatar Universe, and it's far from the last. Cameron is making movies in Pandora right up until Avatar 5 in 2021 (with ideas for further movies even being discussed). In Fire and Ash, the Sully family meets an all-new group of Na'vi in Pandora, the Ash People, led by Varang (Oona Chaplin).

The first trailer for Avatar: Fire and Ash plays before Fantastic Four: First Steps!

After Superman fans got a first glimpse of The Odyssey in movie theaters, MCU viewers will see new footage of Avatar: Fire and Ash ahead of Fantastic Four: First Steps, which releases on July 25.

Little is known of what the trailer entails. We'll likely see the Sully family back on the big screen, as well as Ash People leader Varang. And fire and ash aplenty, of course. Ahead of the new trailer, the official Avatar page has debuted a new poster for the movie. Check it out:

Little is known of the Ash People, but in an interview with Empire Magazine earlier this year, Cameron explained a little about them and their history. "Varang is the leader of a people who have gone through an incredible hardship," he shared. "She's hardened by that. She will do anything for them, even things that we would consider to be evil. One thing we wanted to do in this film is not be black-and-white simplistic. We're trying to evolve beyond the ‘all humans are bad, all Na’vi are good’ paradigm."

Avatar: Fire and Ash releases in theaters on December 19.
