Later this year, #1 New York Times bestselling horror author Kiersten White is returning to YA for the first time since her 2021 novel The Excalibur Curse with The House of Quiet, a dark fantasy about a girl who infiltrates an ominous home for magical children in search of her sister.
Fans of White will know that her previous adult horror novels have included everything from Lucy Westenra escaping from Dracula’s clutches to a former child star entrenched in a dark to supernatural mystery to hide-and-seek competitions in abandoned amusement parks (which is, quite frankly, one of my worst nightmares). While, to our knowledge, The House of Quiet doesn’t feature vampires or amusement parks, it does sound like it will be every bit as hair-raising and unsettling as White's previous works.
We're thrilled to reveal the cover for The House of Quiet, out September 9, 2025 from Delacorte Press:

Set in the middle of a deadly bog, the eponymous House of Quiet can be found looming over the desolate landscape that surrounds it. Like many a messed up, gothic haunted house that has come before it, the House of Quiet is known as a home for troubled children and teenagers with powers too terrible and uncontrollable for them to be allowed to walk around the real world.
Enter Birdie, a young woman who has done everything she can, from bad jobs to blackmail, to gain entry into the house in order to save her younger sister, Magpie. Posing as a maid in the house, she’s determined to track her down before time runs out. But what Birdie finds inside is far from what she expected. She soon finds herself wrapped up in a larger mystery and pulled towards two of the house’s charming inhabitants: stoic Forest and clever River, though it becomes clear that neither can be trusted. Worse and more alarming is fellow maid Minnow, who always seems to have an eye on Birdie. In a desperate bid to save her sister, Birdie is forced to look inward and decide what, and how much, she is willing to sacrifice for family.
