Netflix's Castlevania series was a bloody good time, an animated adaptation of Konami's long-running monster-fighting video game series that was long on action, spectacle and style. The first season of follow-up series Castlevania: Nocturne was also a hit. It moves the action to the 18th century and sets its tale of undead warfare against the backdrop of the French Revolution. Legacy vampire hunter Richter Belmont — which now includes Alucard, Dracula's son, whom fans will remember from the original show — are up against a self-proclaimed vampire messiah named Erzsebet. Taking her down will be no easy task, as the trailer above shows.
Like the first season, the second season of Castlevania: Nocturne will have eight episodes. All eight will drop at the same time, as is Netflix's wont. The lot will be available to stream on Thursday, January 16. Here's the full list:

Erzsebet makes for a frightening nemesis for Richter and company, although if this show follows the traditional Castlevania formula, Dracula himself may show up sooner or later; his followers do love to resurrect him, at least in the video game series. In the original TV show, Dracula actually was resurrected as a human, but decided to live a quiet life. We'll see if that lasts.
These two Castlevania series have been part of the growing movement of TV shows based on video games that are actually pretty good, or at least don't suck, a change from how video game adaptations were usually received in the past. Other recent examples include the Fallout TV show and HBO's The Last of Us series. Hopefully season 2 of Castlevania: Nocturne keeps this roll going.
