The first two seasons of Invincible, based on the comic book series by Robert Kirkman, are in the can, and they are fantastic. I've loved watching the story of how Mark Grayson (Steven Yeun) has gone from unassuming teenager with a superhero father to Earth's best defense against his superhero father and all of his fascist fellows back on the planet Viltrim. Although Mark's father Omni-Man (J.K. Simmons) has been undergoing a change of heart of late. There's a lot going on in this show!
The only bad thing about Invincible is how long it's taken for new episodes to come out. And the second season had a strange release schedule, with the first four episodes coming out in 2023 and then the back half coming out months later. But Kirkman and company have promised that future seasons won't be staggered this way, and that season 3 will hit the ground running. Today, Amazon got the ball rolling by releasing the first official poster for season 3:
Here we have Mark threatening a bloodied and bruised Cecil Stedman (Walton Goggins), the government bureaucrat willing to do anything to protect Earth from its enemies, even if they're very morally murky. Cecil and Mark are technically on the same side, but Mark has been outraged more than once by some morally dubious decision Cecil has made, so I'm not shocked to see him angry again.
Cecil and Mark also featured in the first official teaser for Invincible season 3, so it's looking like the pair of them will figure prominently into the upcoming new episodes.
Feuding or not, Mark and Cecil share a commitment to keeping the planet safe from the powerful Viltrumite empire, which will surely be a major plot point in season 3. The new episodes will start airing on Amazon Prime Video on Thursday, February 6. There will be eight in total, and this time, there won't be any mid-season break! And we can expect to learn more about the new season this weekend at the CCXP Comic Con in Brazil.
