At the very end of the first season of Game of Thrones, Daenerys Targaryen emerged from the remains of a smoldering fire reborn as the Mother of Dragons, with three baby fire-breathers cradled in her arms to prove it. Ever since then, dragons have been a big part of what makes Game of Thrones and its spinoffs appealing. We've seen big dragons, small dragons, nice dragons, mean dragons; we've seen dragons bond with their owners and tear each other apart. And the prequel series House of the Dragon stepped things up by including way more of the winged beasts than Game of Thrones ever did.

Sometime after the second season of House of the Dragon wrapped up, designer and creature enthusiast Mikel Rekondo posted a beautiful image on social media drawing every dragon we've seen or heard of on Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon so far; there's even one on there we haven't met yet, which will hopefully change when House of the Dragon comes back for its third season in 2026.

The image is not only gorgeous, but gives fans a good idea of how big the various dragons are in comparison to each other. "Before starting a new series, I wanted to give this one a proper close with something many of you requested, a scale compilation of all the dragons," Rekondo wrote. "I’ve based it on various reference images, so it might not be 100% accurate, if I got any of them wrong, let me know!" Check out Rekondo's epic chart below, and click through to see close-up images of each individual dragon. They're worth examining in detail!

Balerion the Black Dread, ridden the Aegon the Conqueror, died many years before House of the Dragon, but his reputation as the largest dragon to ever fly the skies above Westeros persists. Meraxes, which was ridden by Aegon's sister Rhaenys (no relation to the Rhaenys we see on House of the Dragon), is also long dead by the start of the prequel series. The biggest dragon around during the time of House of the Dragon is Vhagar, who is still significantly bigger than Drogon, the biggest of Daenerys' dragons over a century later.

Rekondo includes the Cannibal on his chart, a dragon known to live on the island of Dragonstone. We haven't seen him on House of the Dragon, but may yet sometime during the show's final seasons. The chart is missing Grey Ghost, another Dragonstone resident.

The chart also leaves off some of the young dragons we've met, like Stormcloud and Tyraxes; as well as the young dragons that we haven't met, like Morghul and Shrykos. But they're all so small at this point they probably could fit in one slot at the bottom.

We'll see what future seasons of House of the Dragon brings. And if Mikel Rekondo feels inspired to draw more dragons, that's fine by us.
