It has now been almost a full year since Alien: Romulus was released, and fans are no doubt hungry for a sequel.
According to actor David Jonsson, who played the android known as Andy in the film, the second movie is likely to begin shooting soon. Jonsson was quoted as saying the following on the Post Cred Pod when he was asked directly if principal photography would begin this year, as reported by ComingSoon.net:
“I can’t share [very much], but I will say I don’t think you’re far off — your sources have something to them.”

Jonsson’s comments are consistent with previous statements from director Fede Álvarez (also known for helming the Evil Dead remake and Don’t Breathe), who mentioned that the sequel is aiming to begin shooting in October.
Although plot details about the sequel are scarce, Steve Asbell, who serves as the executive vice president of production for 20th Century Studios, confirmed that it continue the story of Andy and his surrogate sister, Marie Raines "Rain" Carradine (Cailee Spaeny), who entered cryostasis in the hopes of eventually starting a new life on the lush world of Yvaga III at the end of Romulus.
Although the planned sequel does not yet have a confirmed filming start date or even a release date, the fact that Jonsson and Álvarez have both strongly indicated that it will begin filming within a relatively short timeframe means that we will probably be hearing more about it sooner rather than later. Meanwhile, Jonsson will next be seen in the Stephen King adaptation The Long Walk, which opens in wide release on September 12, 2025.
Alien: Romulus received positive reviews from critics and grossed $350 million at the box office against a budget of $80 million when it was released last August, and the fact that it was a critical and commercial hit means that the sequel will have a lot to live up to.

The film’s plot focuses on Rain and Andy joining forces with a team of misfits in order to loot cryostasis equipment from an abandoned space station so they can use it to begin a new life on Yvaga III instead of continuing with dead-end jobs on the derelict world of LV-410. However, things do not go according to plan, as the seemingly abandoned station proves to be crawling with ferocious Xenomorphs, making the salvage operation quickly turn into a desperate fight for survival.
Viewers praised the performances, tension, and action set-pieces, with many citing Romulus as a true return to form for the Alien franchise. And fans can only hope that the sequel will prove to be a worthy successor.
And the Alien franchise will continue to expand into other mediums while fans eagerly await the sequel to Romulus, as the Alien: Earth TV series will soon be arriving on the small screen this August.
