We've heard that the third season of House of the Dragon will film from March through October of this year, a good long time. We have more evidence that things are ramping up now, as Redanian Intelligence reports that director Nina Lopez-Corrado is joining the lineup for the upcoming season.
Lopez-Corrado is an experienced television director who has worked on shows like The Night Agent, Supernatural, FBI: International, and Perry Mason, the latter of which was a severely underrated HBO period drama that in no way deserved to be canceled two seasons in, FYI. Lopez-Corrado is also part of the directing lineup for the upcoming season season of The Last of Us, another heavy HBO genre drama, so she seems to be carving out a niche for herself. If you can get in good with the people at HBO, you'll have some interesting work ahead of you.
And there are some interesting times ahead on House of the Dragon. The second season left off on the precipice of battle as armies, navies and dragon-riders prepared to clash in an ongoing battle for the Iron Throne. There's no release date for season 3 as of yet, but we shouldn't expect it until 2026.
The directing lineup for House of the Dragon has shifted from season to season. The first season featured the likes of Miguel Sapochnik, Greg Yaitanes, Clare Kilner, and Geeta Vasant Patel. Of that foursome, only Kilner and Patel returned for season 2, to be joined by Andrij Parekh, Loni Peristere and Alan Taylor, who directed the spectacular episode "The Red Dragon and the Gold." I expect some of those folk will return for season 3, but likely not all of them, with Nina Lopez-Corrado filling in one of the empty slots.
It's looking like House of the Dragon season 3 will have eight episodes, down from the 10 it had in season 1 but consistent with season 2. While we wait for more info on this show, a new Game of Thrones prequel series called A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will air on HBO and Max sometime this year:
