We're just a few months away from the Stranger Things season 5 premiere, and finally, the Duffer brothers can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
In a new interview during Variety Entertainment & Technology Summit, Matt Duffer, the co-creator of Stranger Things, revealed that they are almost finished with Stranger Things season 5. The team is working on editing the season and series finale right now.
"We're doing the final episode right now," Matt said. "So, we'll be done editing that pretty shortly, within days, really. Then, it just becomes about visual effects, sound, and color, and music. So, we have a little bit more to go."
Then, Ross chimed in, and it's not all good news!
"We probably shouldn't be here, to be honest with you," Ross said. "Yeah, we slipped. We're behind schedule."

The Duffer brothers also revealed the Stranger Things season 5 finale is going to be one of the "biggest" episodes ever
Variety also shared a clip of Matt explaining how excited they are for the 4-3-1 release schedule. For those who don't know, the first four episodes of Stranger Things season 5 will be released on Thanksgiving (Nov. 26) at 8 p.m. ET. Then, the next three episodes will be released on Christmas day (Dec. 25), followed by the season 5 finale on New Year's Eve (Dec. 31). We'll officially be saying goodbye to 2025 and Stranger Things season 5 on the same day? What a trip!
In the clip, Matt also revealed that the season and series finale is one of the "biggest and craziest episodes" that we've ever seen in the series. So, that's super exciting, too!
We don't know if "biggest" means longest, but I'm guessing that the series finale is going to be at least two hours long, and maybe more. The Stranger Things season 4 finale was nearly two-and-a-half hours long. For a TV episode, that's insane! It's longer than most movies. And, where that's concerned, I have a feeling this is going to be the longest season of the series by far.
We definitely know the Duffers are going to pull out all the stops and really go for it in the Stranger Things finale. It's going to be a moment that everything has been building toward over the last decade, basically. I know I'm not alone in how excited I am to see if this show, that started so small, can stick the landing.
We're still waiting for the Stranger Things season 5 trailer. We've seen a few teasers and featurettes, including one recently, but when that first big trailer for season 5 drops, it's going to be an absolute event.
Stay tuned for more news about Stranger Things season 5!
