Halloween is here, and these Dune fans have the perfect couples costume idea.

Halloween 2024 is here! And while there are tons of creative costume ideas floating around the internet, I want to draw your attention to some passionate fans of Dune who all got the same idea: a couples costume where one person dresses as a sandworn and the other as their rider. Take a look, with thanks to the good people of the Dune subreddit for the pictures:

I like how each sandworm outfit is different, with each having a different vision of the cavernous maw of the mightiest beasts on the desert planet of Arrakis. I also like that I can see the one guy's face peeking out of that maw in the third picture; otherwise, I'm not sure how the people in the sandworm outfits can see, but I've learned never to underestimate the creativity and resourcefulness of the DIY costume community.

There's been an uptick in the number of Dune costumes this year thanks to the arrival of the movie Dune: Part Two back in March, which saw Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) learn learn to ride a sandworm for the first time. Dune: Part Three is on the way, and in the meantime Warner Bros. Discovery will keep the fans happy with a prequel TV show called Dune: Prophecy, which premieres on HBO and Max on November 17. That one is set thousands of years before the events of Dune, but sandworms are still very much a thing.

And by the way, the Dune costumes go well beyond dressing up as sandworms and riders, although that's probably the most charming ideas I've seen. Between the Bene Gesserit, the Fremen, and more, there are lots of directions you could take if you're interested in a Dune costume. The Dune unvierse has a very unique aesthetic, at once opulent and muted, that I'm sure will make Halloween a bit more visually interesting this year.
