Dune: Part Three trailer promises an epic conclusion to Denis Villeneuve's trilogy

Dune: Part Three looks like it could be the best move of the trilogy.

The first trailer for Dune: Part Three is finally here, and it's everything we've been waiting for.

Warner Bros. dropped the first "teaser trailer" for Dune: Part Three on Tuesday, March 17, one day after they released the first character posters for the new film. Dune: Part Three premieres in theaters on Dec. 18, 2026. I don't know how we're going to wait nine months until this movie is released.

From the first moment of the trailer, it's obvious that a lot has changed since Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) chose Princess Irulan (Florence Pugh) at the end of Dune: Part Two. As we learn, it's been 17 years since the end of that movie, and Paul is going through some major struggles as Emperor. Surprisingly, Paul is seen with Chani (Zendaya), discussing names for their child they are expecting.

After watching the trailer, I have so many questions about what's happened in those 17 years between the two movies, but I'll save those for now.

One of the biggest shocks, to me, after watching the trailer was just how action-packed this movie is going to be. Of course, there's plenty of action in the first two movies, but this feels like a war movie in a lot ways. Like, there were at least a half dozen battles teased in that two-minute trailer. This is movie is going to be epic.

I feel like we can see the pieces of the story's puzzle fall into place, too. Paul, who has become the Emperor, is struggling to hold the seat against rebellion after rebellion. There's a clear juxtaposition between where we met Paul in the first movie and where he is now. From what I can see, he's essentially become what he has been fighting against in the two movies we've seen so far. If we know anything about Denis Villeneuve and this series, there will be more major surprises in store.

While there are many more books in Frank Herbert's book series, which the Dune movies are based on, this will be the final chapter of Villeneuve's trilogy.

As you can see in the trailer, Chalamet, Zendaya, and Pugh will return for the third film, along with Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Javier Bardem as Stilgar, Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck, and Léa Seydoux as Margot Fenrig. In addition, Robert Pattinson will star opposite Chalamet as Scytale, while Anya Taylor-Joy will star as Paul's sister, Alia Atreides.

That is the best cast you'll see in a movie this year. Sorry, Avengers: Doomsday, but this movie is stacked with incredible, talented performers.

Honestly, I didn't think I could be more excited for this movie, but then I watched the trailer. Now, I'm even more excited than I thought was possible. I don't think I've been this stoked for the final movie of a trilogy since The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, and that was when I was a kid more than 20 years ago.
