When it comes to the genre of science fiction, there are two big franchises that I and many others immediately think of. The first one has to be Star Wars for me, but Star Trek is right beside it with its complex themes and interesting characters. There has been plenty of media made for this franchise over the years, but it's been a while since we've seen a new movie. Thankfully, such a film is said to be in the works!
According to Deadline, Paramount will be working with Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley to create this new frontier for the Star Trek universe. These two writers are widely known for writing Spider-Man: Homecoming for Marvel, as well as writing and directing the 2023 film Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.
How good was Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves?
I thought Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves was a really fun time when I went to see it in theaters. I was not all that familiar with D&D, but I didn't really have to be to enjoy the movie. It has a good mix of drama, action, and comedy that all fit well in its fantasy setting. Every part of the production was done really well, including the writing and direction that Goldstein and Daley provided. Unfortunately, despite all the positive feedback, the film was considered a flop due to poor box office numbers.
The movie's failure was mostly due to the overly high budget it was given, which is an ongoing problem in the film industry. Regardless, Goldstein and Daley did a fantastic job with the movie, which I think bodes well for the new Star Trek film. These guys take great care in adapting existing material into their films!

What do we know about the upcoming Star Trek movie?
As of writing this, there has been little else revealed about the new Star Trek movie. Deadline speculates that the film will not be connected to anything that has come out in the past, meaning that Goldstein and Daley will be taking a different approach with the Star Trek universe. Yes, that means the Kelvin timeline introduced in J. J. Abrams' films is potentially shelved for now. The main thing we know is Goldstein and Daley will write, produce, and direct the movie.
Based on their previous works, I would say that the duo will be coming up with new and creative additions to the franchise, like brand-new characters and unique space technology. We're probably a ways out from an official release date for the film, but who knows, they may surprise us and drop more news sooner than expected. In the meantime, we can only imagine what brave new adventures will be waiting for us!
