Although Pedro Pascal had been acting for years before getting the role of Prince Oberyn Martell on Game of Thrones, that was the part that catapulted his incredibly successful acting career. We're not going to be talking about how traumatizing Oberyn's death was, back when "The Mountain and the Viper" aired on HBO in 2014. Instead, we are going to take a quick look at every role Pedro Pascal has had since his Game of Thrones breakout and talk a little bit about each character.
Pascal has worked at a feverish pace since Game of Thrones. His resume is lengthy, which means you may want to take a seat with a snack and drink before reading our list. Just what kind of range does Pascal have in movies and on television? Let's find out!
Be warned there will be several spoilers ahead. Also, this list will only include movie and TV appearances, which means Pascal's iconic Merge Mansions ads and his appearance in Sia's music video for "Fire Meet Gasoline" will not be included.
Graceland (2013-2014)
First on our list is Graceland, where Pascal played the role of Agent Juan Badillo for 11 episodes. Ironically, this would foreshadow a later role that we'll get to.
Although his character is killed by Paul Briggs, this is but one instance of Pascal's ability to play it straight and pass as a credible FBI agent.
The Mentalist (2014)
For his role as Agent Marcus Pike (one of three characters named Marcus on the list), Pascal turned on the charm, setting into motion a Will They Won't They subplot with costar Robin Tunney, who plays Teresa Lisbon.
Taking on another FBI role, he and Teresa's relationship moves quickly, and eventually she has to choose between leaving for Washington D.C. to be with Pike or staying behind with Patrick Jane. Although Pike had proven himself to be the ideal man, Teresa ultimately chooses Patrick.
Bloodsucking Bastards (2015)
Bloodsucking Bastards has Pascal taking on the role of the vampire villain, Max. What happens when everyone you know at your mundane office job become vampires?
Pascal's jump from a likable boyfriend to a bloodthirsty monster was not initially on our Bingo card. Charming and deadly, Pascal turns several lives upside down as he munches his way through an office.
Sweets (2015)
I struggled to find much in the way of information about Sweets. From what I gathered, the 2015 film has Pascal listed as Twin Peter. Other actors and actresses involved in the film include Femi Alao, Raul Casso, Sarita Choudhury, and Raúl Castillo.
Exposed (2015)
I'll be honest, I'd never heard of Exposed, a TV movie about an invetigative journalist, let alone know that Pascal had a role in it. And there's good reason for it: it was never aired.
Exposed was directed by Patty Jenkins, who would later direct Pascal in Wonder Woman 1984. Pascal played a character named Oscar Castro Vargas alongside Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Anna Loach).
The Great Wall (2016)
We don't know about you but Pascal's role in The Great Wall is vastly underrated. While the film is a confusing blend of history, fantasy, and science fiction, with a pinch of humor, Pascal and Matt Damon worked together seamlessly well.
Pascal's role as a partner in crime, Pero Tovar, might struggle to understand William Garin's (Damon) point of view and change of heart but his performance is highly reminiscent of Oberyn in GOT. Only without the brutal death.
Narcos (2015-2017)
For three seasons, Pascal played the role of Javier Peña, a real-life DEA agent tasked with the investigation of Columbian drug lord Pablo Escobar. Oberyn in Game of Thrones walked so that
Peña can run.
Between his extremely steamy romance scenes and his fast-paced action moments, it is very easy to see why Pascal's career gained momentum after Narcos. The sky was now the limit for Pascal.
Kingsman: The Golden Circle (2017)
Pascal joined a powerhouse of Hollywood talent in the sequel to Kingsman: The Secret Service. Combining the drama and action of James Bond with the outrageous humor of Austin Powers, Pascal plays Agent Whiskey, one of the American spies working with the main characters Eggsy (Taron Egerton) and Merlin (Mark Strong).
Equipped with a thick southern accent (perfect preparation for The Last of Us), cowboy hat, guns, and his signature lasso, Whiskey is a shameless flirt with fighting skills to boot. Probably my introduction to the actor (sorry...), this role has a special place in my heart.
Prospect (2018)
Before Pascal starred in the Star Wars TV show The Mandalorian, he donned a different suit in Prospect. As an anti-hero more muddled than Din (when we first meet him anyway), Pascal's Ezra goes from searching for gems to trying to survive.
Although he is able to evade death by teaming up with Cee (Sophie Turner), his performance is a head-scratcher as audiences try to decipher whether or not they are rooting for Ezra to succeed. Thrilling and unique, Pascal's Ezra is one of his standout performances, and not one enough people know about.
The Equalizer 2 (2018)
Denzel Washington returns in The Equalizer 2, this time facing Pascal's Dave York, a CIA turned contract killer.
Funnily enough, York suffers a similar fate to Oberyn Martell. If you know, you know.
If Beale Street Could Talk (2018)
If Beale Street Could Talk is a heartbreaking take on how one racist police officer can ruin the lives of innocent people. Starring Kiki Layne, Stephan James, Regina King, Colman Domingo, Emily Rios and Diego Luna, Pascal's part as Pietro Alvarez is small in the grand scheme of the story.
Trying to free a man wrongfully accused of rape is no easy feat, regardless of the evidence. But it is thanks to Pietro that Sharon (King) meets with Victoria (Rios) and learns the horrible truth about the rape conviction against Alonzo (James).
Triple Frontier (2019)
Starring the remarkable cast of Oscar Isaac, Garrett Hedlund, Ben Affleck, and Charlie Hunnam, Pascal completes the group as Francisco "Catfish" Morales. The former US Army Delta Force operators decide to pull off a heist.
Action-packed with edge-of-your-seat tension and suspense, Pascal's Francisco is the pilot of the operation and helps ensure that although the team suffers some casualties along the way, the mission is completed.
Motherhacker (2019)
Motherhacker is based on a scripted podcast about a woman who gets phished. The TV series adaptation stars acting talents such as Carrie Coon, Alan Cumming, and of course Pedro Pascal.
Pascal stars in the series premiere, "Robocalls."
Home Movie: The Princess Bride (2020)
For a blip of a second, Pascal joined dozens of actors and actresses (Rainn Wilson, David Spade, Chris Pine, Diego Luna, Angela Kinsey, J.K. Simmons, and Adam Sandler to name a few) in filming scenes from the classic movie The Princess Bride during quarantine, scenes that were then released on the micro-streaming platform Quibi, which has since been shut down. Pascal naturally played Inigo Montoya in perhaps one of the most ridiculous outfits I have ever seen him wear.
Although his performance was very short-lived, it made me laugh all the same. For years Pascal has played serious roles, and I appreciate that he can be goofy and carefree as well.
You can watch the entire film above.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
Pascal once said that his role in Wonder Woman 1984 was influenced by Nicolas Cage in Vampire's Kiss (well before their team-up in The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent). The film was poorly received, but Pedro's performance as morally flexible businessman Maxwell Lord was perfection.
Eccentric, passionate, and perhaps in a little over his head accessing the power of the Dreamstone, Lord's mission to grant people what they desire most becomes Wonder Woman's problem to resolve, even if it means saying goodbye to her love Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) a second time.
We Can Be Heroes (2020)
Did you know Pascal starred in a family-friendly film? From director Robert Rodriguez, known for movies like as Spy Kids, From Dusk Till Dawn, and Alita: Battle Angel, comes We Can Be Heroes. Pascal plays Marcus Moreno, the leader of the superhero team The Heroics.
Although the film primarily focuses on the children of the superheroes, audiences get to witness Pascal take on both roles as a single parent taking care of his daughter (career foreshadowing yet again) and trying to save the world from alien invaders.
Calls (2021)
As thrilling and scary as the TV series Calls was, it only lasted one season. Pascal starred in the episode "Pedro Across the Street." I have to admire the show for taking risks; the story is told via phone conversations between strangers, which leads to something apocalyptic.
Suspense builds as audiences are forced to pay extra attention so as to not miss a single detail. Even though Pascal was just in the one episode, this convinced everyone that he could handle voiceover work, which will come in handy later.
The Book of Boba Fett (2022)
In between seasons 2 and 3 of The Mandalorian (which we will get to soon), Pascal reprises his role as Din Djarin the Mandalorian, who had recently parted ways with his young charge Grogu, a force-sensitive alien who was being trained by Luke Skywalker. The spinoff or midquel focused on how Boba Fett survived the Sarlacc pit and rose up to become the Daimyo of Mos Espa.
His task isn't easy, and so he calls upon the help of Din Djarin, then busy trying to reclaim his title and status as a Mandalorian. Some have complained that Din steals all the attention from Boba Fett, but I loved watching the two team up and kick some serious butt.
The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent (2022)
Where do we begin with The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent? The comedy tells the fake story of how real-life, down-on-his-luck actor Nicolas Cage is paid to attend the birthday party of massive fanboy Javi Gutiérrez.
The two of them end up writing their own movie together, while Cage tries to figure out if
Gutiérrez is behind the kidnapping of the daughter of an anti-crime politician. Full of memorable moments, unforgettable quotes, and laugh-out-loud comedy, this may be one of my favorite Pascal performances thus far.
House Comes with a Bird (2022)
House Comes with a Bird is a 15-minute short where Pascal plays Nico, a quirky dreamer with big ideas and lots of money.
Nico is one of the more experimental roles in Pascal's acting career. You are unsure who his character really is until he begins speaking and even then, there are so many ways to dissect his inclusion in this rather moving piece of media.
The Bubble (2022)
When COVID first began, it was both a scary and unpredictable time. The Bubble is a mockumentary-style comedy, that over-exaggerates what a group of actors and actresses endured while filming the fictional film Cliff Beasts 6: Battle for Everest – Memories of a Requiem.
Pascal plays the overdramatic, drug-abusing, laid-back Dieter Bravo. He's got some hilariously memorable moments that I still can't stop thinking about.
The Last of Us (2023)
Based on the extremely popular video game of the same name, The Last of Us netted Pascal his first SAG Award for playing lead character Joel Miller. From contractor single dad just trying to get by to post-apocalyptic anti-hero survivor, Joel unwillingly becomes tasked with transporting foul-mouthed teenager Ellie across the zombie-ridden ruin of the United States.
But Ellie is more than she seems and soon warms Joel's cold heart. The two form a surrogate father-daughter relationship.
Scares abound in this hit HBO TV show. Whether it's the infected or other survivors willing to do anything to live, danger abounds for Joel and Ellie.
The Mandalorian (2019-2023)
For three seasons, audiences have been captivated by The Mandalorian, which has breathed fresh life into the Star Wars franchise with a new story taking place several years after The Return of the Jedi. Pascal plays the main character, Mandalorian Din Djarin, whose life is changed when he takes a job that introduces him to to Grogu, a tiny alien creature who is force-sensitive.
Din and Grogu travel the universe defeating bad guys, meeting new friends, and learning more about each other. Although there will not be a fourth season of the show, the story will be continued in the movie The Mandalorian & Grogu, which is projected to be released on May 22, 2026.
This is the way.
House Broken (2023)
The animated series House Broken, which lasted for two seasons, starred Pascal as a cat character named Claude. The series focuses on pets and strays, and shows us what we all look like from their perspective.
Pascal's Claude is deep, artistic, and heartfelt. His eccentricities are what makes him so likable.
Strange Way of Life (2023)
A murder reunites two friends who once shared a secret romance. The men, Sheriff Jake (Ethan Hawke) and Silva (Pascal), reminisce about the past while contemplating their future together.
Silva hopes to rekindle a romance while Jake refuses. Their complicated past makes the present all the more heartbreaking for Silva, who you just wish would get his happy ending in the arms of his friend and lover Jake.
The result is tragic no matter how you look at it, especially considering he was choosing Jake over the life of his own son.
Freaky Tales (2024)
Freaky Tales is an action comedy that connects four stories during actual historical events in Oakland, California in 1987. I haven't seen this one but I'm intrigued to check it out.
Drive-Away Dolls (2024)
One of Pascal's more bizarre and short-lived roles is as Santos from Drive-Away Dolls. Santos carries around a locked briefcase, and his death early in the movie kicks off the main event.
What makes this role interesting is that Pascal he looks practically unrecognizable in his outfit, complete with thick-tinted glasses and a slicked-back hairstyle.
The Uninvited (2024)
The Uninvited may have flown under the radar until recently, but do not be fooled, Pascal's role as Lucian needs to be acknowledged.
By this point on our list, Pascal has proven he can play nearly every character in every genre. This includes playing a cocky, overconfident lady killer. While I prefer his more likable, funny, ideal boyfriend/husband/father roles, Lucian is still deserving of some recognition.
The Wild Robot (2024)
Newly released animated movie The Wild Robot, based on the book series, has Pascal playing the rascal with a heart of gold, Fink the fox.
Robot ROZZUM Unit 7134, or Roz, crash lands on a wooded island looking for a task to complete. Learning the language of the animals, she rescues a gosling after accidentally crushing his nest. After Fink tries and fails to eat the egg, Brightbill the gosling is born, becoming Roz's sole responsibility. Together with Fink's help, Roz raises Brightbill in preparation for winter migration.
Pascal's Fink embodies everything one would think of a fox. Crafty and sneaky but loyal to a fault with a sarcastic wit, he's part of the reason The Wild Robot will become a delight for both children and adults.
Gladiator II (2024)
Last but not least is Gladiator II, the sequel to the award-winning Gladiator. Pascal takes on one of his more complex and compelling roles as General Marcus Acacius.
The General of the Roman army, Marcus becomes the villain of the piece, at least in the eyes of main character Lucius. I won't spoil any more details as the film has just dropped into theaters!
Trust me, this will be one of Pascal's best performances not only in his lifetime but in Hollywood's as well.
