The Fallout TV series has just premiered its second season on Prime Video. Everyone has been so excited to see the story continue, including actor Walton Goggins. His portrayal of The Ghoul character in the show has already become the fan favorite, which is why Goggins and makeup artist Jake Garber decided to show fans the lengthy process that transforms Goggins into the zombie-like gunslinger.

The video that the Fallout team posted on X displays Goggins getting ready for the transformation that he must do for the character. According to the post, this process can take "around two hours each time," which sounds strenuous for both Goggins and Garber. This goes to show how much time and care the people behind the scenes put into making the world come to life!
The most intriguing thing I found with the transformation was how they mostly leave the nose alone during the process so that the visual effects team can digitally remove it later on. It's a really cool way to combine practical effects with CGI. This whole transformation reminds me of the similar effort James Campbell Bower had to put into becoming Vecna for the Stranger Things series.
Even though the process is probably not that exciting for Walton Goggins to sit through, he displays his charming side throughout the video and even shares some fun insights. At one point, he says, "When they say, you know, that's a wrap, I reach up and pull off chunks of my neck." It's not surprising that wearing all that fake skin would get tiring after a while, so I can't say that I blame him!
Overall, I would say that all the effort is totally worth it for how it looks in the show. It is very close to how the ghouls look in the games, which makes it more impressive that they managed to do that using actual actors. I can't wait to see more of The Ghoul again in the upcoming season!

The first episode of Fallout season 2 is available now to stream on Prime Video. New episodes will premiere weekly on Wednesdays until the show's finale on February 4, 2026. You can find the full release schedule for Fallout season 2 here.
