Esteemed fantasy author Joe Abercrombie is one of the most popular writers of epic fantasy out there today. His beloved First Law novels especially are often considered the next best option for readers suffering from A Song of Ice and Fire withdrawal. What's more, Abercrombie will soon see his bestselling novel Best Served Cold hit the big screen with Dune's Rebecca Ferguson in the main role.
But before his own seminal works get adapted for our screens, Abercrombie has been working on a hit Netflix series: the Emmy-winning sci-fi, fantasy and horror anthology show Love, Death + Robots. The Netflix show is one of the finest out there today; it would be the undisputed best and most popular anthology series on Netflix if Black Mirror didn't exist. It's the ultimate box of chocolates, weaving together stories in all sorts of animated and live-action styles.
This isn't the first time Joe Abercrombie has contributed to Love, Death + Robots. He also wrote the episode "Mason's Rats" from the third season, a whimsical tale about a war between a farmer and a bunch of intelligent rats that live in his barn. The episode wasn't the best-rated of the series, nor was it the worst. Currently standing at a decent 7.6/10 on IMDb, it's well worth checking out.
Ahead of Love, Death + Robots season 4, Abercrombie recently revealed that he wrote a couple of screenplays. For reference, this doesn't mean that he actually wrote the stories; rather, he adapted short stories for television. The author confirmed the news on his X/Twitter page. "I wrote the screenplays for a couple of this season's episodes, as it happens," he captioned.
We don't currently know which episodes he has written screenplays for, but there's no doubt we'll be able to tell by his signature style. Love, Death + Robots season 4 premieres June 15 on Netflix. Check out the trailer below:
