All systems are go on the third season of House of the Dragon, which will start filming in just a couple weeks. While we wait for that, Funko has unveiled a number of new House of the Dragon Pop figurines based on the second season. Check 'em out here.
So we have:
- Alicent Hightower in the seaform blue dress she wore to sneak over to Dragonstone in the season 2 finale and offered to help Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen take over King's Landing and also to let Rhaenyra kill her son. A dress that will live in infamy.
- Rhaenyra wearing a shiny dress; I think it's supposed to be the one she meets Alicent in during that scene.
- Mysaria, appearing for the first time in Funko form.
- Alys Rivers, Daemon's weird witch friend from Harrenhal, also appearing for the first time in Funko form.
- Daemon Targaryen wielding his sword.
The lot of these are now available to pre-order for $11.99, with arrival expected by June. @FunkoPOPsNews also assures fans that a figurine for King Aegon II Targaryen is on its way.
The beautiful, terrible ubiquity of Funko Pops
Funko Pops have become a ubiquitous mainstay of the toy market over the past 15 years, with the distinctive figurines — with their oversized heads, huge highs and lack of mouths — available in infinite variety. If you can think of it, there's a Funko Pop of it.
In fact, they're so ubiquitous that I think they've lost a bit of the fun, fresh appeal they had when they were blowing up. After all, if everyone has a Funko Pop collection, what's special about yours? But far be it for me to crap on everyone enjoying the little guys. I have a few Funkos sitting in my office. How about you?
As for House of the Dragon, we won't see new episodes on HBO and Max until sometime in 2026.
