Pilou Asbæk, best known for his unforgettable turn as the villainous Euron Greyjoy in Game of Thrones and his current role in Apple TV+’s Foundation, is stepping into yet another high-profile project. The Danish actor has reportedly joined the cast of Blood on Snow, the upcoming crime thriller directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga and based on the bestselling novel by Jo Nesbø. Nesbø also co-wrote the film's script with Ben Power.
Asbæk is the latest addition to a powerhouse ensemble that already includes Benedict Cumberbatch, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Eva Green, Emma Laird, and Ben Mendelsohn. Tom Hardy was initially on board the film but had to step away due to scheduling conflicts, leading to Cumberbatch stepping in to fill the role. While it would've been great to see Hardy take on this new project, Cumberbatch’s casting has only heightened anticipation for this movie.
Described as an indie film adaptation of Nesbø's book of the same name, Blood on Snow revolves around a hitman/fixer named Olav who, after being hired to kill his mob boss’s wife, unexpectedly falls in love with her. This sets off a dangerous and passionate chain of events.
Taylor-Johnson, who is known for previously starring in horror films Nosferatu and 28 Years Later, leads the cast playing Olav. Cumberbatch is believed to be portraying a rival mob boss called the Fisherman. Asbæk’s specific role hasn't been revealed yet, nor have any of the other characters played by Laird, Green, and Mendelsohn. Who's going to play Olav's boss's cheating wife? Could it be Laird or Green? Both actresses could easily own the role and deliver an outstanding performance. Or perhaps another actress will be cast in the role. We can wait to find out!
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the cameras have already started rolling on the crime thriller in Latvia. Production began earlier this year in February. It's unknown at the moment when the cameras will stop rolling, but with such a talented cast and crew, anticipation is building for a polished and thrilling final product.
While waiting for the filmmaking process to finish up for Blood on Snow, we recommend reading the book the movie is based on. You can currently buy Nesbø's Blood on Snow novel on Amazon as a paperbook, hardcover, or eBook at various prices. That way, you can get a head start on the story and immerse yourself in Olav's world before it hits the big screen.
