Joe Rogan is the world's most popular podcaster, which means that whenever he expresses an opinion, people listen. That can be an issue because he's expressed some fairly wild opinions over the years. He's fond of conspiracy theories, indulging over the years in everything from classics like "the moon landing was fake" to newer ones, like the idea that ivermectin — a kind of medicine usually used to kill worms in pets — can treat COVID. It's probably best to take what he says with a grain of salt.
For instance, on a recent episode of the show — with guest Adrienne Iapalucci, a comedian — Rogan posited that dragons were not only real, but may have lived alongside humans. “That’s why there’s all these records in all these different cultures. Chinese culture has dragons; Japanese culture has dragons; ancient Europeans have dragons,” he explained.
To be fair, Rogan doesn't think these real-life dragons actually breathed fire — that would be silly. “They’re probably like a crocodile that flies," he said. "There was probably more than one kind of really dangerous reptile that they called dragons. Like Komodo dragons—giant lizards—they call it a dragon, right? Crocodile – dragons. The question is whether or not one of them actually flew, ’cause we know that pterodactyls were a real thing. I think it’s probably something like that, you know, some kind of enormous bird-type creature.”
Dragon-like beings did of course at one point walk on and fly above the Earth; they were called dinosaurs and they died out long before humans came around. As for flying crocodiles existing alongside human civilizations...did you still have that grain of salt on hand?
Joe Rogan loves Game of Thrones, thinks House of the Dragon is meh
Dragons have had a resurgence in pop culture over the past several years thanks to shows like Game of Thrones, which featured a trio of dragons, and its prequel House of the Dragon, which has a lot more.
Rogan has talked before about being a fan of both shows, although he definitely has a favorite. "It's so good," he said of Game of Thrones. "The new one is meh, the new one is two seasons in, the old one is so good."
The new one, House of the Dragon, will return for a third season on HBO and Max sometime in 2026.
