Game of Thrones: Kingsroad looks like the most ambitious Game of Thrones video game yet to be created. It's set during the fourth season of the TV show, when Tommen Baratheon is the newly crowned king in King's Landing, wildlings are menacing the Wall, and Daenerys is putting down stakes in Meereen. You play as the heir to a minor house in the North, and are charged with traveling the Seven Kingdoms and raising awareness about the White Walker threat. Jon Snow himself gives you the mission; you can see as much in the new trailer above.
You'll meet other famous faces from the TV show as you travel an open world modeled on Westeros. You'll play out an original story and fight all manner of beasts and mercenaries with a robust combat system. All in all, the game looks pretty contect-rich.
And now we finally have a release date. According to that trailer, Game of Thrones: Kingsroad will be out for PC and mobile on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, so pretty soon!
Developer Netmarble has clearly put a lot of effort into this game. I think there are some people who are still hesitant to get excited about Kingsroad because it is, at the end of the day, a game designed to be played mainly on mobile devices, whereas I think a lot of Game of Thrones fans would prefer a big expansive console experience. Game of Thrones: Kingsroad features a lot of things associated with mobile gaming that people don't like, like in-game monetization. Even with the developers promising that they've fine-tuned that aspect to be minimally annoying, it's still there, and I don't blame anyone if that gives them pause.
Still, I want to commend the team at Netmarble for creating something that looks pretty cool. In under a month, everyone who wants to try out Game of Thrones: Kingsroad can!
