When Dune: Prophecy was initially ordered back in 2019, there was some skepticism from fans and critics alike. Would this television series be able to live up to the sprawling legacy of Frank Herbert’s Dune universe? Many wondered if it could stand on its own without relying solely on the popularity of the books.
Well, it did. The first season was a major success, and just a couple of days before the season 1 finale aired, HBO made the big season 2 renewal announcement. That was back in December 2024. We had been patiently waiting for things to move forward on the second season since then. Every day, we eagerly anticipated news about the cast, production schedule, plot developments, and more. Now, we finally have good news to share!

Game of Thrones star Indira Varma joins Dune: Prophecy season 2 cast
It's really true! The Dune: Prophecy cast has just grown by three major additions for its second installment, including Game of Thrones alum Indira Varma. She is known for having famously portrayed Ellaria Sand on the popular HBO fantasy series.
You might also recognize her from her other acting work on HBO’s Rome or the Prime Video fantasy series Carnival Row. Her most recent work was starring in the role of Fiona in the British psychological series Coldwater.
The other two new cast members for Dune: Prophecy season 2 are Ashley Walters (Missing You, Top Boy) and Tom Hollander (Monster: The Ed Gein Story, The White Lotus). Unfortunately, HBO did not share any character details for any of these talented actors. Additionally, it didn't reveal any plot details for season 2.
However, we do have more exciting news to share. HBO has also announced that the cast and crew have begun shooting the highly anticipated second season of the hit sci-fi series. The streaming giant announced this filming news on Nov. 11, 2025. When it comes to where production is taking place this season, fans can expect breathtaking visuals from multiple international locations, including Hungary, Jordan, and Spain.
The official HBO Max Instagram page also shared a short video featuring the season 2 cast to announce that production has started. You can check it out below!
Dune: Prophecy season 2 will see a significant increase in episodes. Unlike the six-episode first season, the upcoming installment will consist of eight episodes. This expansion is great for fans who want to see more of their favorite characters on screen.
When it comes to who's returning, you can expect to see Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, Travis Fimmel, Jodhi May, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Josh Heuston, Chloe Lea, Jade Anouka, Faoileann Cunningham, Edward Davis, Aoife Hinds, Chris Mason, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Jessica Barden, Emma Canning, Yerin Ha, Barbara Marten, and Tessa Bonham Jones reprise their respective roles.
In addition, Alison Schapker returns as showrunner and executive producer. A premiere date has not been set. However, the second season is not expected to premiere before late 2026, with 2027 being a more likely window for the series to return.
