One of the most exciting facets of being a Game of Thrones fan is watching members of the cast pop up in other projects that have followed HBO's fantasy epic. It can be even more of a thrill when they land a role that will require them to flex very different acting muscles.

That's exactly the case for Jonathan Pryce and the Sky project he's just been announced for (via Deadline). Although he appeared in just 12 episodes of Game of Thrones as the High Sparrow between 2015 and 2016, Pryce's performance as the unconventional antagonist left an indelible mark on the franchise. I'm sure he'll do the same in the new The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo series.

Jonathan Pryce will play Henrik Vanger in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

The first book of Stieg Larsson's iconic Millennium Trilogy, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, has been adapted for live-action twice already. The first time was in the late Larsson's native Sweden in 2009, starring Noomi Rapace andMichael Nyqvist, and the second was led by Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara for the English-language remake in 2011.

However, both were movies, whereas Sky is bringing the 2005 novel to the small screen for the first time. Pryce will succeed both Sven-Bertil Taube and Christopher Plummer as Henrik Vanger, the patriarch of the story's central family.

Henrik is the one who summons one of Dragon Tattoo's deuteragonists, Mikael Blomkvist (in this version played by David Oyelowo), to investigate the disappearance of his niece. Other members of the Vanger family are treated as prime suspects.

In other words, Pryce's character is expected to once more be one of the biggest catalysts for setting the story in motion.

Pryce could become the definitive version of Henrik Vanger

The new reboot of Larsson's crime classic will be eight episodes long. This gives Sky much longer to explore the various nooks and crannies of the source material like never before. As a result of this, I think it's safe to say that Pryce's version of Henrik will receive significantly more screen time than previous takes on the character.

As such, audiences will get to know him much better, and he'll feel far more familiar as the show goes on. Both Sven-Bertil Taube and Christopher Plummer were great in the role Pryce is inheriting, but they were limited by the nature of the medium of movies.

That being said, don't expect Pryce to remain involved with the show indefinitely. If the adaptation goes well, I can certainly see Sky moving on to the other Larsson books, and maybe even the later sequels that were written by other authors.

Henrik survives the events of Dragon Tattoo, but later books never require him to re-enter the fray. Blomkvist moves on to other all-consuming cases and stories. So, Pryce's workload, while heavier than his predecessors', is still finite.

Other cast members in the new series include Viola Prettejohn as Lisbeth Salander, James D’Arcy as Martin Vanger, Lena Olin as Isabella Vanger, Camille Cottin as Erika Berger, Alun Armstrong as Harald Vanger, Jessica Raine as Cecilia Vanger, and Paul Ready as Birger Vanger.

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is expected to land in 2028.
