Game of Thrones wrapped up six years ago on HBO, but some of the cast members have been working together on other projects. To wit: Kit Harington and Sophie Turner, who played half-siblings/cousins/it's complicated Jon Snow and Sansa Stark, reunited for a horror movie called The Dreadful, which according to Radio Times has just wrapped filming in Cornwall, England!
The Dreadful isn't just any horror movie; it's a medieval period horror movie set against the backdrop of the War of the Roses, which happens to be the same war from which author George R.R. Martin drew a lot of inspiration when writing his A Song of Ice and Fire series; people have long seen parallels between that war and the story of Game of Thrones, with House Stark standing in for the House of York and House Lannister for the House of Lancaster. So it's funny that these two actors in particular would choose this project.
That said, the plot sounds pretty original. Written and directed by Natasha Kermani, The Dreadful is about a young woman named Anne (Turner) who lives a solitary life with her mother-in-law Morwen (Marcia Gay Harden). And remember: this is medieval times, so a solitary life truly means solitary. I'm guessing that Anne's husband may be off to war. Anyway, a man from their past, played by Harington, comes into their lives, setting off "a chain of events that irrevocably alters Anne's life," according to the official synopsis.
It sounds interesting enough, and period horror is something you don't see a ton of. Also, there's one more Game of Thrones veteran in the cast: Laurence O'Fuarain, who played the minor role of Simpson in the season 5 finale, is also in The Dreadful. Sure, it's not the same thing as Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) or someone being in the mix, but it still adds to the Game of Thrones reunion vibe the movie has going.
There's no release date set for The Dreadful as of yet, but now that filming has done, hopefully things will become more clear.
