The seventh episode of Gen V season 2, "Hell Week," is a play on the week pledges of sororities and fraternities endure hazing or rituals prior to joining the organization. Other than Sam being a part of the Order, it has little meaning for the rest of the episode. The events taking place don't occur over a week. If so, it would be apropos to call this a hell week.
Gen V episode 207 recap: "Hell Week'
This episode opens with Annabeth’s precognitive powers showing her images of her sister in blood. Given Marie’s powers are blood-based, I’m curious as to why she believes Marie is in danger.
The other Supes realize both Marie and Cate left the underground bunker. They set out to find them.
Cut to Cate and Marie, where Cate’s still pleading with Marie to heal her powers. They’re at Cipher’s place, intending to break in and determine if the man in the bariatric chamber truly is Thomas Godolkin. They arrive and realize there are no guards; plus the front door is unlocked.
Jordan and Annabeth have a nice talk about their powers on the drive to Cipher’s house. It’s a good place to reveal small backstory details.
Polarity shows up at the same time as Cate and Marie. He tells them he just missed Cipher leaving with the old man from the chamber. He also reveals how his powers interrupted Cipher’s influence on him. Perhaps there’s a way to stop the brute. When he has a seizure, Marie uses her powers to calm him. Has she actually healed him though?
Speaking of brute, we have another elder abuse scene where Cipher beats his invallid father. However, he stops short of killing him. Cipher is loosing it over Polarity cutting his hold over him.
At Cipher’s house, the discussion between Cate, Marie, and Polarity turn to whether Cate’s powers should be healed. They also discuss ways to confront Cipher. Conveniently, he calls on the room phone and Marie answers. While he goads her, she gets a clue of where he physically is located.
Annabeth received another precognition about Marie. She describes the room she sees, which Jordan recognizes so they race to get there in time.
The group converges outside the building with the training room, where Marie believes either Godolkin or Cipher are waiting. Annabeth confesses she saw her parents’ deaths just prior to Marie killing them. She tries to convince Marie her recent vision is real, and Marie ends up using her powers against her friends in hopes of deterring them from assisting her.
Polarity is the first to confront Cipher. He’s joined a few minutes later by Sam, Jordan, and Emma’s new Starlighter boyfriend. While Polarity can keep this villain from manipulating his body, he can’t prevent him from inhabiting the others. The confrontation goes bad.
Meanwhile, Marie finds Godolkin and begins healing his body. The effort drains her, causing her to fall unconscious. Shortly thereafter, she, Emma, and Cate realize what a mistake that was.
The true identity of Godolkin ends this episode: he is the real Cipher, who has been controlling the dean of God U all this time. He begins the culling of Supes.
While some kind of reveal at the end was expected, what it is surprised me a little. It has certainly upped the ante for the upcoming final season 2 episode.
