Fans of streaming shows have gotten used to unexpected axings now and then. Still, it seemed out of left field when Amazon announced it was canceling Gen V after just two seasons. The spinoff of The Boys focused on a pack of young Supes at a school supposedly training them to become heroes. It’s not long before they learn the dark side of Vought International and its dealings.
The second season upped the ante by linking to The Boys and setting up a potentially bigger third season. Its sudden conclusion has fans speculating about whether the events of The Boys’ series finale might lead to a much different world, one without much need for Godolkin University.
Executive producers Eric Kripke and Evan Goldberg issued a statement with the cancelation, hinting that the show may be done but the characters could return in future projects: “While we wish we could keep the party going another season at Godolkin, we’re committed to continuing the Gen V characters’ stories in The Boys Season 5 and other VCU projects on the horizon. You’ll see them again.”
As for the actors themselves, several members of the cast have begun to chime in. Leading off is Jaz Sinclair, who had the key role of the blood-controlling Marie Moreau. On her Instagram page, Sinclair offered her initial thoughts while hinting she’ll have more to say about the show ending in the future.
“There’s so much I wanna (and will) say, but for today I just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. I’m so happy you’re here and I’m so grateful for this incredible experience," she wrote in an Instagram Story.
The season 2 finale had Marie unleashing her full powers, hinting she was on a power level equal to Homelander. That left a lot of potential for the character to grow more, which makes it likely the producers still have some ideas for her.
London Thor, who played the female half of the gender-shifting Jordan (Derek Luh plays the male persona), wrote her own Instagram message: “This show changed my life. So long, Jordan. Thank you for everything.”
Maddie Phillips, who played mind controller Cate Dunlap, made a note on a behind-the-scenes video, “Live laugh love, later !!! <3”
It does seem the actors all enjoyed their experience on the show, with its wild twists and turns alongside outlandish scenes only The Boys can pull off. While the viewing numbers weren’t as large as the main series, Gen V still appeared to be doing well, and had a loyal audience expecting a third year to come about.
That’s not happening now, yet there’s still hope some characters like Marie can pop up in other series in the franchise as the Gen V cast hopefully graduates to bigger and better things.
Gen V is streaming on Prime Video.
