Last last month, it was confirmed that A24 and director Alex Garland are officially moving forward with an Elden Ring movie. Elden Ring is a dark, brooding RPG set in a broken world filled with terrifying monsters, deities, and warriors made by FromSoftware, the developer behind video games like Dark Souls and Sekiro. It's their bestselling game of all time and its fans are legion; it's a little surprising to see a FromSoft game make the leap to the big screen, but if any of them was going to, it's Elden Ring.

And now we have an idea of who may star in it. Deadline reports that Garland is in talks with Kit Connor to star in the Elden Ring movie. Connor is probably best known for his turn in the Netflix series Heartstopper, but he also worked with Garland on the movie Warfare (2025). According to Deadline's sources, "several factors still need to be worked out including scheduling but both Garland and Connor want this to happen."

George R.R. Martin seems happy with Elden Ring movie team

I haven't seen enough of Connor's acting to have too strong of an opinion about him as the potential star of Elden Ring, but if it does pan out this would easily be his most high-profile role yet. But what part will he play? A Tarnished? One of the named demigods?

It's hard to guess without knowing more details about the film. One other notable aspect of Elden Ring is that some of its lore was created by none other than A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin. It's a story of desperate heroes in a world which has been torn asunder by a political struggle between members of a demigod family, which is right in Martin's wheelhouse. There's plenty of drama for the film to draw from, whether it chooses to explore that lore or some other angle on the game's world. For my money, a proper exploration of how the Lands Between were first sundered would be the way to go.

However the film tackles the game's story, Martin seems confident. He took to his Not A Blog on May 30 to very briefly weigh in on the movie announcement, saying, "A24 is a kickass studio, and Alex Garland is a first rate director." He also shared a fan-made video explaining why the movie won't suck:

Martin serves as a producer for the Elden Ring movie, along with his longtime production partner Vince Gerardis, and Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich from DNA. It hasn't been announced whether game creator Hidetaka Miyazaki will serve as a producer or in some other role for the film, but hopefully he's involved somehow. Garland is both writing and directing the Elden Ring movie.

We'll be on the lookout to see whether Connor ends up getting officially cast in the film. And hey, if Garland and company want ideas for who else to cast in the movie, we have a few:
