If an entirely new Harry Potter TV series wasn't enough, Audible will debut an ensemble cast audio dramatization of the beloved novels later this year.
The audio series follows in the footsteps of previous successful Audible dramas, such as 1984 and The Sandman, boasting a stellar cast with names such as Hugh Laurie as Albus Dumbledore, Matthew Macfadyen as Lord Voldemort, and Riz Ahmed as Professor Snape.
Another major casting sees Michelle Gomez (Doom Patrol, Doctor Who, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) take on the role of Hogwarts Professor Minerva McGonagall. Naturally, people have taken issue with yet another Harry Potter adaptation, and many have also thrown shade at the cast for taking part in an adaptation of J.K. Rowling's work.
In the case of Gomez, she quickly took to her Instagram Story (per Entertainment Weekly) to speak out against Rowling's anti-trans views.

Michelle Gomez speaks out on Instagram
“To my LGBTQ+ fans, and especially the trans community: I want to speak directly to the concerns that have been raised about my involvement in this project,” she wrote. “I hear you, and I understand why this is painful for many. I want to be clear that I stand with trans people, and I support trans rights – fully and without hesitation."
She continued: “When I accepted this role, I did so as someone who has always loved the stories and what they meant to so many – especially those who found comfort and identity in that world. I now understand more clearly how deeply complicated and hurtful this association can feel, and I take that seriously.”
Gomez doesn't want the association with Harry Potter to be a hurdle to her views, and she makes her support for the trans community known: “Being an ally means listening even when it’s uncomfortable and taking accountability where it’s needed. I’m committed to doing both.”
The Harry Potter audio drama will adapt all seven novels. Interestingly, it'll mark Arabella Stanton's debut as the voice of Hermione Granger. Of course, Stanton will also play the character in live-action in HBO's upcoming adaptation. Making up the key trio in the audio version are Frankie Treadaway as our titular Harry Potter and Max Lester as Ron Weasley.
Audible will debut the series on Nov. 4, 2025. This full-cast audio dramatization marks a first for the franchise. You can learn more about the project here.
