Despite the fact that Warner Bros. and HBO are actively in production on a new iteration of the series in television form, the legacy of the original Harry Potter film series continues to persevere.

Warner Bros. recently announced that for the annual Back to Hogwarts celebration this year, they’re going bigger than ever before. What began as a celebration of the beloved film franchise’s anniversary a few years back, with the festivities beginning in September, has quickly evolved into an annual tradition. Just as Star Wars has May 4, Harry Potter now has September 1.

The celebration has steadily evolved and grown in size, now including theatrical re-releases of specific films, various digital partnership tie-ins, and even large-scale fan events spread across the globe. However, Warner Bros. recently announced that the mainline event of the celebration this year will be the large-scale re-release of the 2005 film, Mike Newell’s Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

The fourth installment of the franchise was released on November 18, 2005, and is a widely praised, fan-favorite entry. For many fans, the third installment, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, and Goblet of Fire remains two of the most critical junctures in the franchise, as the duo served to transition the movies from the more kid-friendly fare of Christopher Columbus’ original two films into the darker and more somber tone of David Yates’ latter installments.

While Alfonso Cuaron’s Prisoner of Azkaban remains a critical darling, Goblet of Fire has long been the pre-eminent choice for fans searching for a Harry Potter film that delivers blockbuster thrills, emotional character beats, and spectacle galore.

To this end, the opportunity for fans to see Goblet of Fire on the big screen once more is an exceedingly promising one. Beyond the fans who are well acquainted with the sheer impact of seeing he-who-shall-not-be-named’s fateful return in the theater, this re-release will also give an entire generation who has grown up on the films but hasn’t had the chance to see them in theaters the chance to experience it for themselves first-hand.

Even as Warner Bros. and co. attempt to forge a new path with an all-new adaptation of the source material, those in charge seem keenly aware that the fervent Harry Potter fanbase remains deeply attached to these original works and is ready to celebrate with them in grand fashion come this September, with the 20th anniversary re-release of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

In addition to the theatrical re-release, a free screening of the film will take place on August 31 at London’s Cineworld Leicester Square, featuring a Q&A with Harry Potter alums James and Oliver Phelps, who played Fred and George Weasley, respectively. See the full list of events here.
